the microphones
any fans of the microphones here?
|
I've heard of them but I've never heard them, sorry.
|
blegh you should
|
Yes, I know...I'm currently starved for new music, but I've been really busy.
|
that's a shame
|
mount eerie is one of the best records ever.
|
agreed
|
I'd like to hear some new music, but my wallet has a gun to my head. He wouldn't like that very much.
|
shit man.. do you want me to call the police?
|
bass drum dream is excellent.
|
i like the glow pt. 2...i used to date some chick who was close friends with the microphones guy
|
that's sweet.
the glow pt 2 reminds me of my ex... |
I <3 Mirah, shes down with the Microphones guy.
|
i saw his new project, whatever it's called, with that girl, it was DREADFUL.
|
I really like The Glow Part 2. Song Islands is pretty good too.
|
Worst band name ever.
Think harder, folks. |

I think they actually changed their name to Mt. Eerie. I don't think the name The Microphones was that bad though; I liked the simplicity. I saw a band on MTV this morning called Under the Influence of Giants, so I don't think The Microphones is the worst band name ever... not even close. I like The Microphones/Mt. Eerie very much. It's hard not to like The Glow Pt. 2, I think. The Moon is quite an emotional song. |
I've always been curious about them, cuz their name pops up here and there. What do they sound like?

twee indierock to the power of 10 |
Twee indierock? No. Wrong.
Everything released as Mount Eerie is much much better than all of the Microphones stuff put together. The Glows were so boring. |
Quote:
why listen to the microphones when you can listen to Of Montreal though???? |
Quote:
why listen to any of them? |
Quote:
whatever, i saw them play, and i know what i saw, it was tweeness and it was diabolically bad. |
mount eerie is not twee pop...it's similar to dnd-era liars or super ae-era boredoms.
i can't say i'm much familiar with anything else by them, but mount eerie is an excellent album. |
Quote:
Meh. You're a fucking European. |
Quote:
mount eerie the band, not mount eerie the album |
Quote:
yes, and therefore more cultured and educated. |
Quote:
Improbable. |
Quote:
actually both |
Quote:
where the heck have you been? i really love "the moon". i play that song a lot at night. |
Quote:
yes, i know, i was saying that because your post contradicts mine, but refers to the album, not the band, i was refering to the band. who most certainly were twee pop. |
Quote:
When I think of twee pop I think of things like the Postal Service, Mates of State, and other shit. Never the microphones. |
Quote:
ah, dunno. i know mount eerie by the microphones and i have one mount eerie album on mp3s which i forgot what it's called, but it follows the line of well...very repetitive post i don't know enough to say if they are or not twee pop, but belle and sebastian, camera obscura (scotland)...that's what i hear is twee pop |
Quote:
i was just going to make a topic about this band because i couldnt remember there name, good stuff. |
Quote:
they sound like the liars minus the intensity with lou reed as a front man, very cool |
This just came out of nowhere: Phil Elvrum is playing as The Microphones in Porto next friday, one day before a previously scheduled Mount Eerie show.
|
|
one of my favorite bands.

As I'm more familiar with his Mount Eerie stuff, I only recognized some songs from The Glow Pt. 2, notably the first three tracks of the album - very stripped down versions, only Phil and some other guy on keyboards and effects. After that they were joined by two portuguese musicians (bass + drums) and played more upbeat stuff like Wind's Poem "Between Two Mysteries". Nice little show, looking forward to the Mount Eerie one today, although it's partly overlapped with Lee Ranaldo's - who was at yesterday show's venue, although he left short before the start. |
The Glow pt.2 is so goddamn good. I know everyone knows that, but it's extremely true.
