SYG Compilation Streaming On Soundcloud NOW!

Community is overrated, but only because everything in the world is overrated. The ...sprawling, spewing morass known as The Internet takes the blame.

This compilation is a ping-pong of slow burns and quick freezes, creative enticements that celebrate imagination, effort, and courage. The Internet takes the blame here, as well.

There's good and bad in the puerility of the sugar-shocked, and the vulgarity of the whiskey-woozy. A self-deprecating shake of the head or the haughty crossing of arms. There's a time and a place. Flaws can, and do, flow.

Feeling a little disjointed? Don't you wish you did?

Exercise for the mind time: Imagine a shepherd tending to his flock by day and waking to discover every single sheep dead from prussic acid poisoning. Now imagine being the shepherd. Now imagine being one of the sheep. Having some difficulties? Listen to these songs and then try again, going as you wish from role to role. The point is not exactly what you feel as either sheep or shepherd, but that you are feeling in the first place. (The tidiest scenario I concocted was that involving myself as the shepherd overjoyed that they will no longer have to watch over dirty wool and anticipating the day I no longer suffer the auditory hallucinations brought on by their incessant baas.)

On or off the computer, the world is a cherry-picking pit with passion, intelligence and talent practically starving due to neglect. This album is a multi-course meal served out of order, but oh well, it's a goddamn sensory assault, it tastes good at best, interesting at worst, and everyone involved--from preparation to consumption--can be said to have lived just a little bit extra.

I see suckacock sounded too much like an actual song to be on the comp.

is there a way to see where the tracks start???

man... people are really scared to sing these days (only 3 or 4 people singing).

Genteel Death 06.26.2011 12:52 PM

You'd say that, although I agree with you.

EVOLghost 06.26.2011 01:03 PM

I thought Dead Air contributed too?

Genteel Death 06.26.2011 01:08 PM

No, he hasn't.

Genteel Death 06.26.2011 01:14 PM

Do I have to compose kinnwhatever's reply, or is that expected of me too?

hevusa 06.26.2011 01:43 PM

You are a sad person.

Genteel Death 06.26.2011 01:50 PM

Anyway, what do you think of it?

I just listened to most of the comp and I think it sounds great! Good work Genteel and everyone who contributed.

Genteel Death 06.26.2011 01:57 PM

That's cool. Have you got any other thoughts about it?

yes... i find it hard to bounce around it. Where does one song end and the other begin? How do I know whose track I am listening to? Why not make the songs separate tracks then link them as a comp? was it for the sake of flow?

I agree that the flow is the most important but it would be nice if you could mark start and stop points.

Yes and no. Depends what you mean with such generalisations.

Have you got a pair of ears?

It is more obvious to you because you had the separate tracks. What if I want to quickly bounce to track 6?

Genteel Death 06.26.2011 02:14 PM

Why would I care? I'm a WAY more talented musician than you are. Got better stuff to do, now. Bye.

EVOLghost 06.26.2011 02:29 PM

SYRFox's track is.....fantastic,.

The fact that you didn't care was the point I guess.

cassette?? jesus christ.
why not go with 8-track tape then?

Derek 06.26.2011 02:47 PM

Because a lot of people still buy and listen to cassettes and no one listens to 8 track tapes?

I'm guessing that the sweater vest version of "a lot" is different than my version.

Derek 06.26.2011 03:28 PM

Your version is some land where devil horned slobbering retards run about and headbutt each other.

Pelle 06.26.2011 03:50 PM

Enjoy it so far..

It was by a large margin the best-produced. Though the content didn't really do it for me. I'm still not entirely sure why you're being a total cock about it though.

I'll go through and put tags on the tracks in a bit - but you can see from the shape of the wave in the interim.

Here's a track of me singing a cappella to keep you happy.

I've done this now. It's a bit ambiguous in places, but that should encourage you all to listen to the whole thing.

Pelle 06.26.2011 04:25 PM

Just wanna say, SteveOK's track is wonderful! Really impressive :)
and so are SonicBebs track.

Thumbs up folks!

Was it too long?

All the tracks you sent me were too long and too loud.

nicfit 06.27.2011 02:39 AM

This thread sounds like a family dinner.

Pookie 06.27.2011 05:12 AM

Side A (part 1)

Casi Cada Minuto (slavo) - nice disturbing start to the SYG Compilation. Words like textures, ambient, layers of sound should be used in a way that doesn't make the writer sound like a pretentious twat. Alas I am not that writer.

Slot (Diesel) - The most obviously SY (with a bit of JAMC thrown in) influenced with great lazy drum playing! Out of all the tracks probably least like the kind of thing I would listen to these days (who the fuck listens to SY anymore?) but I enjoyed this a lot.

ExFox (SYRFox) - I haven't got much to say about this but I liked it a lot.

Year of the Lips (Genteel Death) - the highlight of side one. This really reminds me of something but I can't think what. The way Sigue Sigue Sputnik SHOULD have sounded had they not been shit. Needs to be released as a 7" single!

Small White (CHOUT) - Starts a bit TOH...and goes downhill from there (only joshing!). Good bit of psycho-surf.

themawt (themawt!) - psycho-lounge doesn't get much better than this.

Pookie 06.27.2011 05:22 AM

Side A (part 2)

Baron Von Headless (DDD) - nice bit of solo acoustic guitar wizadry with sonic doodling over the top. Every album needs its own Cohesion.

Allerlei Vogel Zu (A Thousand Threads) - solo acoustic guitar doodling (without the weirdness added - see above) does little for me I'm afraid. All sounds a bit buskery to me :o.

Forgotten Works feat. Paul Metzger and PLUS ULTRA (Savage Clone) - doesn't sound a bit like Duran Duran - who'd've thunk it? As fantastic as you would expect from the SYG Elvis. He should do this for a living.

Genteel Death 06.27.2011 08:36 AM

Thanks Pookie!
I was wondering if you're thinking of Chrome. Production-wise, I'm really fond of Diesel's song.
