Tell me about your expierences at SY shows!
If enyone has cool Sonic stories, I would love to here them. How many times have you seen them in concert and if you have had any Sonic encounters!
|
Thanx! Thurston is a chill guy.
|
I met lee a month ago. we talked for a few mins. thats my story.
|
to experience sonic youth live (esp. for the first time) make you fight yr. way from the balcony to the first row in packed brixton acadamy (persuading bouncers on half way to let you into the hall with balcony ticket). that was after first chords of golden blue.
welcome. |
I go to Sonic Youth shows, look around at all the people I know but don't talk to anymore, stand around with my arms folded, holding some tour merchandise, and watch the band.
|
i went to the show in columbus on monday, and i ended up fainting (i hadnt eaten all day). as much as that sucked, it got me back in the first aid area, where thurston walked by no more than 50 ft away. aaand, the medics got me and my boyfriend seats in the handicapped section, so we were really close and could see everything really well. so in spite of everything, it was really fucking awesome.
|
I saw them at Lollapalooza (i wanted to see them at CBGB's but age restrictions are lame, also my mom wouldn't let me go to Brooklyn for the pool park shows, which sucks because i actually LIKE the YYYS) They were really awesome and i was right up at the front. But they walked off and came back for Shaking Hell. But i had already started leaving because i was going to the next show across the field, so i was a little bit further for that, but still fucking close in retrospect.
|
i touched thurston last saturday.

I saw them at the pabst and had my elbows on the stage, during 'what a waste' Kim was practicaly stepping on me.
Saw them at the MN state fair where I was in front of Mr. Moore but about 20 feet away. After they were done and before the Flaming Lips started a couple persons were smoking mary jane right behind be. I laughed. |
Right on!

i went to the Missoula show this summer. Kim signed my ticket afterward, but got into a van with Mark Ibold without saying anything to us. Coco walked to the bus a few minutes later. my friend and i didn't realize it was her until some woman started walking after her and said "Coco! wait up!" and she turned around. Thurston came out next and talked to a group of us for about ten minutes. Lee almost walked by us until Thurston was like "Lee!" and he was like "I'll be back in a minute" and then he dropped his backpack off in the bus. Lee signed my friend's shoe with the inifinity symbol (which removes any doubt of whose DDN symbol is whose). Steve had already left, so we didn't get to meet him. on the drive home, my friend freaked out for about an hour over the fact that she met Lee Fuckin' Ranaldo and then passed out from exhaustion. i drove home, nearly passing out myself on several occasions, and nearly killing both of us. kinda scary.

I went to the Secret Show in L.A. and I had a blast especially when they played Schizophrenia, and Sleeping Around. I know everone hates that song, but live it is amazing. And I had an orgasm, and everything was fun. I did not meet anyone, cause I left after the show.

Most Sonic Youth fans I've encountered are snobbish rich kids that think they're gods gift. I normally take the piss out of them at gigs and push my way to the front. :)
|
I never met that type, but if I do I'll tell them to go fuck themselves, hey Tokolosh I bookmarked your site, I like it.

Thanks static. ;) |
Tokolosh...I hear you, on these snobbish kids were Magic Numbers Fans. Me and Disgruntled Youth pushed our way to the front of the show.....for more info and opinions on my conduct see the ''Last Night In Columbus'' thread.

One of the best for me was in Dallas 2004 when I gave Thurston a neckless I was wearing with a flashing ball on it and he wore it for the rest of the set.
A little something from me to you Thurston hope ya liked it. |

Radio SY fans= kids that here the radio song from a new album, memorize the words, go to the mall and buy the new album and the matching T-sirt,get tickets to the show and annoy the fuck out of the real fans. P.S, These are the dumbasses that make bands sell-out. |
i have never (ever) heard an SY song on the radio. have you?

But still posers suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
the closest thing to that description is just fuck-o's that like teenage riot so they think they are big sy fans. whatever. they are good for a chuckle sometimes.
|
I'm sorry, i used to listen to like pop-punk, so i've experienced REAL posers. Sonic Youth doesn't get played on the radio. There is no problem with SY posers because once you've heard their music you like it or you dont. I doubt there are many people (other than my mother) that just like Incinerate. That's ridiculous.

i used to/still listen to punk. so i also know the concept of a poser. quite frankly, i find them utterly hilarious.
