The Rolling Stones are kicking my ass
I've been revisiting their middle period of late. I do this about once a year, and I'm always amazed at what they were able to do between about 1968 and 1973. I've even discovered a new love for things I'd neglected in the past, like Goats Head Soup.
|
Please, God, no. I hate the Rolling Stones. They should get back in the fucking nursing home.
|
Well, I don't like the present-day Stones. But man, that late 60s/early 70s period of theirs... They were great, once upon a time.
|
Sorry. I hate them.
|
Well, they're an acquired taste, I'm sure. Even back in their day, many people hated them.
I won't hold it against you. |

Oh quiet sissypants. Get back to your Modest Mouse. |

Hey, you, get offa my cloud. And back to your Modest Mouse. |
Rolling Stones? Ah, it's no longer a rock&roll band! Come on, should a "rock&roll" band give best places on their big concerts to American Express owners? Or sell their album on an USB Key format for 40€ ($40) ?

An ear is a terrible thing to waste on Modest Mouse. |

I agree. I'm only a fan of the old Rolling Stones, not the present day Rolling Bones. |
RS' Between the Buttons is genuinely quirky, unlike Modest Mouse, which is quirky & herky-jerky because they just are awful in just about every respect.
& one other thing People that compare MM to Pavement are fucking bonkers. Senator, I served with Jack Kennedy, I knew Jack Kennedy, Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you are no Jack Kennedy. |
At least when I'm listening to the Stones, I'm acting age appropriate. Isn't that what all us geezer boomers are supposed to listen to? (To be precise, I was born on the end cusp of the boomer years. I'm more like a zoomer. Boomers are 60s kids, I'm a 70s kid, more or less.)

ha ha this is the funniest thread ever !!
-I dig the Rolling Stones - They are shite, i prefer Modest Mouse. - Fuck you, i'm indier than you ! - ... |
as much as i love them, i wish they would go the fuck away.
|
Me, too. They haven't been very graceful about exiting the stage. That should have happened right after Some Girls, I think.
|
if they still like to tour and want to go out on tour, fine, but leave me out of it. they must be taking tips from eric clapton these days/
|
They're pretty lame, it's true. I think I remember even thinking their 1978 tour sucked. They'd lost any spark they once had by then. The last "art" album they made was Goats Head, and the rest is Doobie Brothers quality--competent but no soul.
|
the rolling stones - old
the rolling stones - rock the rolling stones - suck the rolling stones - reminisce the rolling stones - remarks on older material end thread |

Please, grandpa, save me the lecture. Rolling Stones are boring overappreciated shit. |
at least hayden added a few more syllables to "overrated"

What kinda irks me, though, I have to admit, is when people dismiss the Stones catalog just becuz they think they "suck" based on what the Stones are today. I think people are missing some great music with blinders like those on. Beggars Banquet through Goats Head Soup is some fantastic stuff, and much of their earlier LPs are great, too, like Between the Buttons. |

Did it make me look smart? That's what I was aiming for. |

they stopped being the stones I knew and loved right after Some Girls. They're really not the same band.
|
keith has always been keith.
|
True.
|
mick is also still a pretensious cock. you know that lower class english accent he does? it's completely fake. he's been doing it for years.
|
Yeah, I always knew it was a put-on. I think people put up with it more in the 60s/early 70s, even knowing it was a put-on, becuz so much stuff was a put-on back then, and they were groovey with just going, "Oh, that's Mick, being coy." These days, it's just annoying.
|
it's such a shame about him too, he used to be as pretty as toilette.

Ha, yeah. What an innocent-looking schoolboy. Before coke and disco.
|
the stones rock. that's all you need to know.
My all time favorite stones song though is not a rocker, but WAITING ON A FRIEND. when I found the original 7" single I played it maybe 20 times in one week. gmku, forgive the young-un's. they know not what they say or do. I woudlmuch rather go see a rolling stones show today than a Franz Ferdinand or a belle and sebastian or a sufjan stevens show. |
Well, yeah, given those choices, I'd choose the Stones concert anyday. They still do entertain, even if they're not as "relevant" anymore.
I like Waiting on a Friend, too. I often forget about the Tattoo You album. It's pretty good. I like Slave, Heaven, and Hang Fire off that, too. |
Hang Fire always makes me feel great
In the sweet old country where I come from Nobody ever works Yeah nothing gets done We hang fire, we hang fire You know marrying money is a full time job I don't need the aggravation I'm a lazy slob I hang fire, I hang fire Hang fire, put it on the wire |
They suck.
|
I put Tattoo You on over the weekend. So nice. The first 4 songs on that first side are just so slacker perfect. Perfect for clinging to that Tequilla Sunise and never getting anything done... The second side is nice, too, appropriate for when you're crashing from the tequilla daze...
