porkmarras 09.01.2006 10:57 AM

HaydenAsche 09.01.2006 10:58 AM

I'd light the cd on fire and completely forget about her.

nicfit 09.01.2006 11:00 AM

ha ha,i already told wax to check lady assss ooohhh veeeeee, pork!
so,you "londoners" and so on,any other name worth checking? maybe shytsie (sp)?actually i do not know why,but i can only imagine music like that with a feminine "vocalist",but i assume there are male emcees too...aaay?

porkmarras 09.01.2006 11:06 AM

Lethal Bizzle next.

porkmarras 09.01.2006 11:06 AM

I assume that you are familiar with Dizzie Rascal already.

cellscape 09.01.2006 11:11 AM

I liked the album a lot at first. It seemed fun and had a unique blend of influences and beats from Grime to Dance Hall to Brazilian street etc. But for some reason it's luster wore off fairly quickly. And I don't think that had do do with her opening for Gwen Stephani. I'd still hit it though. Both of them actually.

wax 09.01.2006 11:43 AM

yeah, know dizzie rascal.
im more interested in female vocalists though.

Iain 09.01.2006 11:56 AM

Yeah, the appeal of the MIA album wore off quite quick for me as well and some songs became just plain annoying. Lady Sovs appeal lasted longer though but she's taken way too long to put out the album (still not out yet right?)

wax 09.01.2006 12:02 PM

oct 6th i just read.
as i say, i just got into this today, so i cant tell how long it might carry on sounding good.
anymore names to throw in?

cryptowonderdruginvogue 09.01.2006 12:30 PM

nicfit 09.01.2006 12:48 PM

Pax Americana 09.01.2006 02:20 PM

I get MIA songs stuck in my head a lot, some of my friends are really into her.

I have that Galang song on the computer, it's annoying now but fun to listen to everynow and then. Same with Lady Sovergien, they get old really quick. Does anyone know who the 3 british girl rappers who they were comparing to the beastie boys?

nomowish 09.01.2006 11:12 PM

The All Music Guide recommends...

Neneh Cherry
Ms. Dynamite
Missy Elliott

Everyneurotic 09.02.2006 09:48 AM

sorry, i don't like reggaeton.

zedius 07.17.2007 01:17 PM

What is reggaeton?

How is Lady Sovereign related to M.I.A.? I've only heard Love me or Hate me, and those were the days, but both sound nothing like M.I.A. to me.

Lady Ass, I like that.

nicfit 08.17.2007 10:07 AM

i'm not going to say anything because i'm going to be called racist and that i hate hip hop but yeah i don't like music that's all just monotonous drums while some chick who thinks she's in hezbollah is going "rama mellah rama rama rama mellah" for fucking three minutes straight in every song she does. her only progression was that in the first album it was the dum ca-dum-da dum reggaeton drum beat and now it's some african polyrhythm.

just what i hear.

schizophrenicroom 08.26.2007 06:44 PM

boring

jico. 08.26.2007 09:12 PM

she's really pretty, and hot

i'vent heard the last album but i would say the bigger force behind her is kuduro and she made an elegant use of it.
(acabei de reparar no que escrevi e, no toca a analogias com o traseiro da m.i.a, devo dizer que não foram intencionais).
kuduro is a growing movement and and a relativly new musical genre that seems to be finnally emerging in occidental cultures with a surprising success.
take an example from this little portuguese group that literally came from nowhere and now during this year made an huge success all over europe and are getting ready to take over the world.
not my favourite music genre, i'm dont even like it, but it's defenitly interesting. i am not a preconceptuous person.

Crumb's Crunchy Delights 08.27.2007 05:28 AM

Chuck Norris is THE S***, for sure.
