Favourite moments in recorded music?
What are some of yr favourite parts in any music?
A favourite of mine is the second bit (call and return horns+gtrs) in The Flying Luttenbachers Demonic Velocities-20,000,000 Volts. (the version from Destroy All Music) |
"Kick out the jams mothafuckas!" at the beginning of kick out the jams
dawg |
word.
maybe that "HUH!" and all the little vocal things in YYY's Machine (or any Fever To Tell Song) yes. most Karen O vocal sounds. |
-I really like it when Karen counts off at the begining of "Man"
-"One two one two one two titty!" -The part where the noise starts in "Silver Rocket" -"Hello, I'm Johnny Cash" on folsom prison |
im the royal tuff titty and you're gonna taste my love
and also, on pacific coast highway, the whole middle part of the song is beautiful. |
i cant recall what song it is... but it's Nirvana..... anyways, he stops the gtr strings, but theres feedback. and its very fast, and then a different pitch fdbk, and back to the first pitch. its quackers.
|
I love the "ah-ah-ah-ah-ah"s in The Beach Boy's 'you still believe in me'.
|
Sonic Youth's 'Beauty Lies in the Eye', when the drumming picks up for a few seconds.
The whole of The Fall's Peel Session version of 'Athlete Cured' because (and I realise I've mentioned this before) it is perfect. I could probably choose a dozen magical moments from that song alone. |
the opening narrative on godspeed you black emperor's f# a# infinity
|
One off the top of my head is the opening to Bob Dylan's 115th Dream. Bob starts playing an acoustic and singing expecting the band to kick in shortly but never does. Bob starts laughing and the producer/engineer laughing too tells them to start again. Then the song kicks in with the band.

I like the amphetaminic snigger that Lou Reed lashes out on Heroin but in all honesty that is not the only one.

That moment in European Son when the glass breaks and the noise begins
the beginning of Teenage Riot the solo in Bullet with Butterfly Wings Treefingers from Kid A |
Andre's verse in OutKast's B.O.B

That part in Cat Power's song is probably my all time favorite. It literally brings me to tears or at least close everytime I hear it.
|

The bit in Rock Island Line where Lonnie starts doing that sliding D bit after the intro.
"Go!!!!!!!!!" from start the riot. The first numbers bit from Einstein on the Beach. The third motif from Tchiakovsky's Romeo and Juliet. Those Cellos from the Rites of Sprin (only on Russian recordings, the Naxos and other European recordings don't seem to get it). Obviously, the pause before the coda of Expressway. The chorus of Exidor by Urusei Yatsura. Any part of recorded music which features Flava Flav going, "yeaa-aah bwoooy!" Others, probably. |

"Let's get real, real gone for a change..."
Nick Tosches puts this down as the moment rock 'n' roll died. Possibly the first example of pseudo-rebellion in music put on record. I still love it though. |
the moment the drums kick in on bardo pond's tommy gun angel.
the moment the drums kick in on boris' absolutego. |
The demented beat on Martin Rev's 'In my arms'.
|
"Well that's the way I like it baby,
I don't want to live forever..." |
a man singing the lines:
"When the routine bites hard And ambitions are low And the resentment rides high But emotions wont grow" while a powerful synth riff plays in the background. one of the strongest moments I've ever encountered |

"...and don't forget the joker" actually the intro bassline is also one of my fave moments. |
A few more:
That opening riff to Company Calls by Death Cab. In fact, that entire song is absolutely fantastic. I want to dance right now listening to it. That "You'll provide the birdbath if I provide the skin" line from CoCo Rosie's Terrible Angels. "First of all, fuck Bush" From P.O.S.'s cd. The Lies, Deception, and Tall Tales 8 minute EP. It's perfect. The percussion at the beginning of Don Diasco. The back and forth vocals of Parenthetical Girls' The Weight She Fell Under Techno Slaves Are Fucking Go Fitter Happier from Radiohead |
How about when John sings in A Day in the Life, "I'd looove tooo turrrrrrrrn youuuuuuuu onnnnnnnnnn" (with all that great shit in the backround).
|
The whole of Public Enemy's 'Party for your right to fight'.
|
Intro section to "Black Sabbath" by Black Sabbath.
|
