silverchair
One of the first bands i flew into screaming when i was younger . And much to my delight they just keep getting better as they get older .
They've been making some more music according to their site chairpage.com . see ? =D The band’s fifth studio album will be launched at Homebake 2006. The as yet untitled disc is in the final stages of recording and they’re currently in Prague tracking some orchestral pieces on three songs. They will then head to Los Angeles to start mixing in a couple of weeks so you can expect their highly anticipated new album to land in stores right around Homebake, with a preceding single released over coming months to serve as a very welcome taster. (HOMEBAKE 2006 – Party In The Park Saturday December 2nd, 2006 The Domain, Sydney City, NSW") July 27, 2006 Chris Joannou : As I write this Daniel is finishing up the last of his vocals and the plan is to start mixing in a week or two. At this stage we hope to have the album out before Christmas and to do a few shows around that release. Question from a fan answered by Chris Joannou : 9. Do you think you'll do a big tour for the next album? Yep! =D |
No.Not them.
Ick.
awesome, can't wait!
Great band. Daniel Johns is a really talented guy. Heard some of the new songs, really good. http://www.chairpage.com/news/album5/studiovideo.htm
People should check out their 3rd and 4th album if you only remember them when they were 'huge'. http://www.myspace.com/silverchair |
no way man, never. Daniel Johns isn't a talented guy, remember the Dissociatives.
The Dissociatives are cool. They do a great cover of Going Out West by Tom Waits. There's not many people who could pull that off.
Daniel Johns is still alive? Huh... who knew? I thought one of his 3,000 terminal illnesses would of caught up to him by now.

If you'd checked out the link(s) I gave, then you'd have been somewhat educated on Silverchairs music rather than judging them from 1996. If you were referring to Nirvana with your comment, then you're even more off the mark. Check the links out.
Urgh...
=D
my message is too short . =D |
I really liked Frogstomping. An underappreciated band, for sure.
Appaling band.
yeah my firend used to bang on about these and when he's real drunk he'll bang on the album and i'll be getting sick in the corner somewhere. i didnt think they were still round though.
![]() Kurt Cobain? |
It must be the beneficial influence of the gorgeous Natalie Imbruglia then.
so d'you think they'll release it at the same time internationally or will i have to wait a year to get it in these shores like diorama?
the result of kids who listen to nirvana and get corporate backing. worst band imaginable.
sorry but:
silverchair>nirvana |

The lack of Diorama exposure overseas was Atlantic Records fault. Apparently in Australia was the quickest selling and highest selling of their albums so far. The American label didn't agree with it and refused to promote it. They're independant in the states now, and I take it in your area, so hopefully their next record will get the respect it deserves. |
Again, guys. Listen to the links I provided. They resemble nothing of Nirvana, and never have other than the main guy having long blonde hair. You're saying genetics is plagerism? HAHA. They've claimed to never like Nirvana, BUT having a big interest in Soundgarden and Pearl Jam in their early teens. Frogstomp was not a grunge record - It was a rock record, that is all it was. By the second album Freakshow, you can hear a Helmet influence (and if you're educated on Helmet, you will know they are not grunge whatsoever), it's great record. But by their third release (which was Neon Ballroom, the time which that quote Sn@ke posted above was from. Definitely no similarities to any bands let alone Nirvana. Therefore making Sn@kes flimsy point invalid) they had their own sound. same goes for their forth record, and the record soon to be released. Take the blinders off people. If you don't like them after you actually know them, then that's cool, music is subjective. But to base your theories and to throw your silly allegations around based on a record from over 10 years ago when they were 15, is quite ignorant on your behalf. Expect more from yourself!
They've did some great covers, too: Wasted/Fix Me - Black Flag, Minor Threat - Minor Threat, Londons Burning - The Clash, New Race - Radio Birdman ...
They are rubbish.I understand the australian pride and all that but they are rubbish.......RUBBISH.
No Australian pride at all. There's many Australian bands I think are shit. Silverchair are not one as they are talent.
Porkmarras, I do believe you were listening to Justin Timberlake? |
Yes that's a tangible reality.Very tangilble to the extent that i don't understand why Justin is not here with me.
Anyway,i don't have a habit of being offensive to nationalities etc.I decided to listen to The Scientists upon looking at the Silverchair name again.............they're still rubbish, you understand.
Justin. Timberlake. I'm afraid after that Porkmarras, anything you say could and will be used against you.
Really?Like how,mister?
Who's in there?
I'm Australian and I can say I hate silverchair's music more than most people on this board. I heard that song about the the year 2000 a few weeks ago on Video Hits and it sounded even worse than I remembered.
The chorus was the most teenagerish chorus I'd ever heard and their ideas of expanding their sound was to put some studio delay overdubs over the verse. Also I remember Silverchair wearing Offspring tshirts in music videos in their early days. Also how can someone who claims to like Black Flag then be in a band with Paul Mac, possibly the biggest douche in the world. |
Anthem for the Year 2000 was a radio song. Listen to any other track on the album and you will see how they 'expanded' their sound. That song I don't actually like either, really.
I'm not a fan of Paul Mac, but he's a talented guy. Aside from his skill with all his gadgetry, he's a fine pianist. He just can't write songs for shit, hence the need for Daniel. Daniels made him famous. As for the Offspring tshirts: You weren't into shit music when you were 15? I think we've all fell victim to a shit band here or there in our lives. He actually has really good taste in music. He was probably listneing to Black Flag before most people on this board knew who they were. |

Yeah thats true, but I have revisited Neon Ballroom and still don't like them. |
its the most repetetive, predictable shit i have ever heard in my life.
The very fact that someone has used the 'Anthem of the Year' expression wants me to put a stop to recorded sound alltogether.Anthem of the year.........God help us.
I didn't know Silverchair actually had fans.

i remember that the reason the album didn't get released in this side of the world at the same time was because there was still some unfinished business with their previous label licensing and needed to be sorted out, it also happened during daniel's illness, which cut the band's touring time off, so the label, once they gained the licensing rights, didn't think the album could sell without the band touring, so they shelved it for a year. the band was promoted outside of australia only twice in their career, when frogstomp was released and when neon ballroom was released. that said, i think it's pointless trying to prove the band is good, people don't like them, they won't like them no matter what. it's just a waste of time and it's their loss. i hate when people try to pimp me bands i don't like because i end up hating them more, so please, stop trying to convince anyone in the board to like them. |
I'm by no means trying to convinve the board to like them - I'm trying to cut the ignorant comments out. Again, if people don't like them, that's fine. But when people throw around uneducated claims, they make themselves look like dicks. That goes for any band I like or don't like.
