Not as good as the original Lulu.

Derek 09.29.2011 08:15 AM

awful.

flashlight69 09.29.2011 10:46 AM

metall is a little bit out of what i would call "my taste"

but i think it will be a good and interesting record.

so i will buy it.

everything for mr. reed

lalalalies 09.30.2011 02:14 PM

It's not that bad. I've never heard anything like this before, it's just... interesting.

Pelle 10.22.2011 07:32 AM

Listened to the full record on Lou Reeds website.
The album in general sounded better than just "The View", but it still sounds like shit.

sy2004 10.22.2011 03:50 PM

Terrrrrible, nothing else matters.

everyone is slating it

littlepriest 11.02.2011 12:11 PM

I'm so disillusioned right now

the ikara cult 11.02.2011 01:01 PM

When i was listening to "The View" i couldnt help imagining it was about the American TV show of the same name. I.E. a bunch of old women making a ton of noise to no particular end.

tesla69 11.02.2011 01:15 PM

Certainly nothing I could predict but there's nothing offensive about the tune - I bet Lou's wife told him to do it because it is pop art, as in popular...

the ikara cult 11.02.2011 01:41 PM

Im quite fascinated by this, because i dont like Metallica at all and im not sold on Lou Reed very much either, i almost feel like this project is pitched specifically at me. "Hey, all our fans hate it, maybe that means its the album youve been waiting for!"

tesla69 11.03.2011 09:45 AM

PUMPING BLOOD!!!! PUMPINGBLOOD!!!! PUMPINGBLOOD!!!! the old guys have got it...

I noticed Jenny Scheinman in the lineup - Violin, Viola & String Arrangements - she plays with Nels Cline a lot and had a regular gig in Brooklyn at I think Barbes this year...

I'm liking this! Its got the heavy chunky guitars I always like, with Lou's vocals -

When theyīre listening their first demo, they realize itīs missing almost everything. Then their vocalist has a "great idea": "Letīs ask my 60-years old conservative dad do the vocals, although he never even heard metal music".

Death & the Maiden 11.04.2011 06:13 AM

I've only listened to the first half (85 minutes in one go is too much for me). I know it's not good, and I don't disagree with any of the reviews of it, but for some reason I still enjoyed it. Yes, I realise the songs could be reduced by about five minutes each, there is no chemistry whatsoever, the riffs aren't inspiring, Lou sounds bored and James sounds like an idiot when he does his vocals, but I still liked it.
The store I work at got about 200 copies of it in. In the five days since its release, not even ten copies have been sold.

Genteel Death 11.04.2011 06:15 AM

It's not the worst record ever for sure. It's better than Animal Collective, for instance.

fugazifan 11.04.2011 07:43 AM

mettalica have been shit for years, and lou reed has been shit since the mid 70s, so yeah, no suprises in the uninspired sounds of this album (at not the view)

Pelle 11.04.2011 08:34 AM

Lars Ulrich ruins the whole record tho...damn he sucks..

Keeping It Simple 11.04.2011 09:33 AM

The NME quite like it.

The NME being the most valid of music journalism of course.

Derek 11.04.2011 11:45 AM

I'm quite enjoying the album.

It's nice to see two relics of the industry try something different even if the results aren't completely great. Some parts work really well and others don't work at all but it doesn't deserve the insane bad hype and criticism it's been receiving.

scott v 11.04.2011 12:53 PM

the music is way too predictable in a "metal" way and thats what you get from Metallica nowadays (mediocre neo-thrash but slowed down) same goes for most of Reed's material with whatever pretentious bullshit he's got going on... i' m sure they would've come up with something much more interesting if Metallica tried something this adventurous in their prime, say circa 1986, but this isn't... its 2011 and it seems both Metallica and Lou Reed are grasping at straws to make themselves "relevant" once again, sorry this is a failure, nice try (or is it?) maybe Reed should work with SUNN O))) and Metallica should work with Wolf Eyes (fat chance on the latter).

I'm not comparing their records in terms of what they sound like. I know what they sound like. I was simply pointing out that overall this particular record is bolder and more daring than anything Animal Collective - the first ''cool'' band that popped up into mind - have ever done. In that respect I don't understand why it's getting slated so much. Some of the lyrics are brilliant. In a couple of songs I find them even brutally sad. As you may already know, there aren't that many great lyricists in rock music at the moment.

Derek 11.04.2011 04:49 PM

"Cheat on Me" and other songs are fucking great, I don't understand how people could say they're bad.

Oh lord.

It's not as bad as I thought it would be from what I've heard.

For some reason I'm quite glad you like it D-dawg.

I've listened to it a few times now, and I think it's brilliant. I might try and write something more extensive about this soon, but... it's a great record. It's kind of funny that the trailer song is probably the weakest song on the album. Perverse promo, I'd say. Reed's on incredible form, lyrically. It probably helps that Metallica just sound equally as generic and boring as they always have to me - but contraposing that with Reed's most obtuse lyrics for a while is a great idea. It definitely feels like Lou Reed backed by Metallica, rather than a full collaboration, and that's a great thing. And I think Reed's bringing out some of his a-game playing as well.

It's a perverse record, but I don't quite think it's over-indulgently so. So yeah. That's some of what I think.

fugazifan 11.05.2011 04:45 PM

ugh, you people and your compliments for the album are going to make me actually listen than more than just the view....

So if the lyrics are great, there is nothing wrong that the music is miserable?

Glice 11.06.2011 05:53 AM

I don't think the music's miserable, it's perverse. Which (drumroll) is appropriate for the music.

Rich coming from you. Read your own posts, matey.

Derek 11.06.2011 06:26 AM

I'd go as far to say that this record is the only thing Metallica has done that's worth listening to since maybe '...And Justice For All'. I would probably say the same for Reed except I actually haven't bothered with most of his post-70s output.

I havenīt heard the whole record, but what Iīve heard it sound to me miserable. Lyrics may be great, but the way Lou "sings" them is miserable. I also like some music that I consider perverse, but I donīt think this is perverse. But of course everybody have own opionions about whatīs perverse.

Well I think St. Anger and LULU differs like day and night (I think St. Anger is just great), but of course itīs a wrong opinion, because I donīt belong into SYG-cream.
