I'm surprised no one's talking about it here.
Especially with the colorful group of characters that post on here.

I seldom pay attention to the news these days, but when I heard of these protests I cut on the tube just to get an idea as to what's going on. Was a bit taken aback that I wasn't seeing much coverage on the tele.

!@#$%! 10.02.2011 06:30 AM

i read a couple of weeks ago that they stormed the internets but only 300 people showed in the streets.

i had no idea that the so-called protests had continued. i read the washington post every day and the mother fuckers have said nothing.

if it wasn't for this fucking board i wouldn't have heard a thing.

so apparently google said the protests have continued but i have no fucking information.

fucking washington post has become a weird neocon rag-- the publish shit by real-life dr. strangelove charles krauthammer, some bitch named rubin that writes teabagger propaganda, and even bush's former speechwriter (among others). curiously enough the only of this trio who is not mentally unbalanced is the speechwriter-- the other two are basketcases of paranoid delusion.

anyway thanks for the info.

oh dave your gif is not very funny, i feel sorry for that poor whore on the right-- she looks like she's escaping reality for a moment and splat! her rent check arrives. which is more sad than funny. but ok, it is a little funny that you like to post cocks in politics threads. i wonder why. afraid of the serfs taking your property? it's not going to happen.

Proposed list of demands for occupy Wall Street Movement:

I'm sorry, but this list is ridiculously stupid. Almost seems like a joke.

Another policy that must be instituted is raise the minimum wage to twenty dollars an hr.
Demand two: Institute a universal single payer healthcare system. To do this all private insurers must be banned from the healthcare market as their only effect on the health of patients is to take money away from doctors, nurses and hospitals preventing them from doing their jobs and hand that money to wall st. investors.
Demand three: Guaranteed living wage income regardless of employment.
Demand four: Free college education.
Demand five: Begin a fast track process to bring the fossil fuel economy to an end while at the same bringing the alternative energy economy up to energy demand.
Demand six: One trillion dollars in infrastructure (Water, Sewer, Rail, Roads and Bridges and Electrical Grid) spending now.
Demand seven: One trillion dollars in ecological restoration planting forests, reestablishing wetlands and the natural flow of river systems and decommissioning of all of America's nuclear power plants.
Demand eight: Racial and gender equal rights amendment.
Demand nine: Open borders migration. anyone can travel anywhere to work and live.
Demand ten: Bring American elections up to international standards of a paper ballot precinct counted and recounted in front of an independent and party observers system.
Demand eleven: Immediate across the board debt forgiveness for all. Debt forgiveness of sovereign debt, commercial loans, home mortgages, home equity loans, credit card debt, student loans and personal loans now! All debt must be stricken from the "Books." World Bank Loans to all Nations, Bank to Bank Debt and all Bonds and Margin Call Debt in the stock market including all Derivatives or Credit Default Swaps, all 65 trillion dollars of them must also be stricken from the "Books." And I don't mean debt that is in default, I mean all debt on the entire planet period.
Demand twelve: Outlaw all credit reporting agencies.
Demand thirteen: Allow all workers to sign a ballot at any time during a union organizing campaign or at any time that represents their yeah or nay to having a union represent them in collective bargaining or to form a union.

1. I'm all for reinstating a living wage, but a $20/hr minimum wage is kind of a spit in the face to college-educated professionals, not to mention that inflation would soar to compensate. A fairer idea is a standard nationwide minimum wage. Here in PA, the minimum is $7.25/hr but I've heard it's higher elsewhere. It should be equal across the board.

2. As someone who was recently in a situation where the people with the most control of solving a health care related issue were the ones least affected by it, I sympathize, but I'm not sure this is the answer. That said, the health care system in this country does need an overhaul.

3. See #1.

4. I'm sorry, but no. Universities have large staffs of well respected professors and high end professional equipment they use for educational purposes, and those things cost money. You can't realistically lay that burden on taxpayers. Yeah, tuition should be lower (maybe something should be enacted where colleges have to have their tuition rates reviewed and approved by the Department of Education or something), but it's simply a fact of life that you gotta pay for higher education. In some countries they pay for high school, so in reality we have things easy.

5. OK, this one I can get behind 100%, no argument from me.

6. A good idea, but $1,000,000,000,000??!! How on earth do they plan to raise that much money?

7. Another good idea, but again, $1,000,000,000,000? Combined with #6, they'd need 2 trillion. Anyone who could raise that much money needs to think about helping out the national debt.

8. Another one I can get behind 100%.

9. I don't think this is up to Wall Street or the US government to say yes or no to.

10. One more I can get behind 100%.

11. This just isn't realistic. We're talking massive layoffs to cover the losses and if they think that's acceptable, it doesn't say much for their sense of compassion. Maybe there are situations were people should be given some leeway, but an across the board erasure of all debts is not feasible. Just like tuition, paying debts is a part of life sometimes. If you don't want to pay debts, then spend your money more responsibly and don't rack them up in the first place!

12. This ties in to #11 and to a point #2. The credit system does need an overhaul, but this is not the answer.

13. I don't really have an opinion on this one, but I will say I'm anti-union.

Overall, I think their hearts are in the right place, but a lot of what they're proposing just can't be done or shows a lack of responsible thinking on their part. There's more to solving problems than either pretending their causes never happened or throwing money at them. Someone in the comments section said the list is too much and they'd get a lot more support if they came up with a single uniting idea such as outlawing corporate lobbying. I agree, and I'd take it one step further but outlawing ALL lobbying...I've been repulsed by the idea since I first learned about it in civics class. No one should be allowed to buy a stake in the way the country is run.

I've been out of town and strangely do not feel compelled to join this group. Someone now seems intent on leading them into group arrests again and again. I follow Abbie Hoffman when he said it was "the duty of the revolutionary to stay out of jail". In my mind they should be picketing at the Yankees games not blocking traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge on a saturday? If the goal is to fuck up the movement of capital, you do it M-Th, not on saturday. As this picks up some energy around the country, let's see I predict 1. provacateurs do something very violent and ugly to make them look bad and give the fascist media something to rant about. 2. media-appointed leaders will start popping up on the corporate media, possibly celebrity connected. did you see where Ray Kelly claims the NYPD can shot down a civilian jetliner? Does the NYPD have the legal right to own surface to air missles?

protest culture is not in intent but in effect an evil conspiracy to urbanize the young and innocent … give that decrepit old parasite conglomememerate some much needed vitality infusion …. try tie a few tasty morsels down for the much needed billboard cachet … .keep them hungry, on their toes and raging. No need to push the best to the front line so they can be done worst to, spilling into the street is quite inevitable for anything approaching crowd condition …. easy pickings for the orcs of global crowd control HQ
What motivates me to warn you is a closer look at what the livestream editors choose to present as tieovers for the down time .. intermission filler as it were. There is for instance the …
spanish protest culture footage over a
Sonic Youth song called ‘rocks’.

A few remarks on what goes on without saying:
Already pleasantly suprised by the relaxed and harmonious strum/style mix on that song (protest culture uses much angrier tunes on the whole) i prick up my ears when i hear ‘rocks’ in the lyrics and try catch a few snips so i can find all of the lyrics and the band name.
rocks — and the way humans relate to rocks .. being both substrate and vector of, that is relating to all being .. usually poorly — being THE main theme of my work, i look a little closer.
as an excercise i shall take their words and twist them ever so slightly yet come up with entirely opposed world views and much differing practices.

for those who claim not to understand this protest movement, stop being pretentiously facetious, we all know what its about. Corporations have been running this country (I'd say ruining but that presupposes the US was ever any good in the first place ;) ) for over a hundred years, and we all know the consequences and live with them daily.

I support these protests, its nice to see people rally against the Shitstem, however lets get real, could 99% actually agree with even one thing this movement wants? Honestly, most Americans LIKE corporations, and so this movement is not like what happens in Paris, or Athens, or London, no, this is America, I'm fucking surprised that no corporations have stepped up yet as the "official corporate sponsor of the Occupy Wall Street/Occupy DC/Occupy LA movement" ;)

I'd join em but in LA protesting isn't like it was in the days of good Dr King, you just end up in the County, and in those dungeons people could care less about activism, all they care about is drama and ass beatings

I got an mass email from the Philly concert people R5 that was all gleeful that the mayor was making available to the protestors there video so they could watch the Phillies game tonite, so there is definitely some people who don't get it. Sitting around watching sports, supporting the millionaires working for huge corporations...

" A bunch of the R5 staff have been getting involved with OCCUPY PHILADELPHIA at City Hall. For those not in the know : "Occupy Philadelphia is a ground up, leaderless movement acting in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street movement. Our goal is to give a voice to the 99% of the population of our country and city that has suffered at the hand of corporate greed. We are here to peacefully and nonviolently occupy City Hall until our voices are heard. We are inviting ALL Philadelphians to join us in dialogue, action and camping." We went yesterday and it was very inspiring. We saw lots of old friends, met some new ones and it was pretty amazing to see people get together and discuss ideas in community forum. By far one of the cooler things we have had the pleasure of being apart of. Mayor Nutter announced today that the City will broadcast The Phillies game at City Hall / Occupy Philadelphia tonight. We think this is great and encourage you to come watch the game, pick up some information and talk to some of the folks down there and consider your potential involvement. It's not all too often a group of young Philadelphians get such dedicated and direct attention from our political leaders.

Its nice to see Americans protesting without tri-corner hats from the 18th century or Automatic weapons from the 21st century. Its nice to see though, what ive seen of the protesters they seem to be pleasant, articulate and have a decent grasp of what the problems are.

Are they actually getting near to Wall Street itself? i might be wrong but protesting in The City of London seldom ever happens.
