humanity demands that we let anybody who wants to be a neurosurgeon practice without a license.

Nice flip answer from someone I am sure realizes that with standardized testing comes classes that teach to the test only, not to mention that sometimes test performance does not directly correlate with the actual comprehension level of the curriculum by each and every student.

Pretty difficult to test consistently.
Not like knowing "answers" to math/science, and inherently containing some level of subjectivity and discretion on the part of the testing review staff.

I think testing should be required, but not just one form of testing.

i don't see any point to them seeing as how they've lowered passing grades so much that it doesn't matter how well you do, therefore the amount of idiots passing the tests is unthinkable.

That's true. In fact, in my school you only have to get 50% of the questions right to pass the graduation exam.

I see how tests might be bad in certain situation (like wrting or reading comphrension), but I don't see why they should be eliminated completely.

because they serve no purpose. the schools lower their passing grades so that more people can pass (duh), which will make them look good in the eyes of our government, which is pretty fucking ass backwards if you ask me. that way we end up with a bunch of fucking morons who managed to make it through law school or med school or whatever, you know? and do we really want idiot lawyers or doctors? i think you can answer that question yourself.

That's true. But with the extreme laziness and apathy found in schools, without tests students wouldn't learn anything. The only time they try is when a test is coming up. Less motivation, you see.
The standards on tests should be raised, but I guess that's what you hinting at. Since they won't be raised, they should be eliminated.

i actually would not advise it, because although a GED is supposed to be honored the same as a high school diploma, it isn't.

She is right on that, GED isn't well looked upon, that is why I got my High School DIploma after my GED.
