Sonic Nurse Is Great
 

okay if you read my old post you would know that i just recently got nurse. anyway it's a great album for when your sitting and doing nothing. just so you know, since i got it, everytime i get on the computer i sit here and listen to it. yeah it's a great sitting and staring into a screen kind of album. my fav song is dude ranch nurse. great song great song. what do you guys do when you listen to this album? and what's your fav song?

so that goes with Nurse too

My favorite song on this album changes all the time... guess it tells a lot on how good it is...

I don't understand why people say that it's a weaker album. I even tried to get tired of it after, and failed. Unmade bed is jawdropping

Stones or Pattern Recognition or Papercup Exit... though if i pick one it be Pattern Recognition just because of how they perform it live, which is totally fucking killer, w/ thurston shredding that blue jazzmaster like no guitar should be treated, all the while climbing rafters in misc venues around the globe circa 2004-05...

Peace Attack is so unbelievibly good for melodies.

"Paper Cup Exit" is fucking excellent.

i love everything on the album exept "kim gordon and the arthur doyle hand cream" but i dont nessarily hate that song. my fave is probably dripping dream

to all the mamas with the money eyes this kinda love comes as no suprise

Yes, "Sonic Nurse" is a great album through & throuh. In my opinion.

Stones is my favorite.

I love how "Kim Gordon & The Arthur Doyle Hand Cream" has that noise ending that intros "Stones". "Stones" is fucking awesome live.

it surprises me how so many people here love this album and don't talk as much about murray street....

"Murray Street" is better 'cuz of it's small track #. They fit so much great music in those 7 tracks. It's an excellent album.

i don't like murray street.

I admit, "Murray Street" has it's flaws, but doesn't every SY album have at least 1 flaw. I can understand why you don't like it Laila.

Sonic Nurse is one of my least favorite sonics.

i just don't like the songs, that's all, plain and simple. probably the only decent song on there is the empty page, but you have to be in a certain mood to listen to that song, and i am like barely ever in that particular mood.

nurse is one my faves,

its well crafted and written, it also has some great sounds throughout it,

i think its their strongest since washing machine,

Nurse is my favorite SY album. Every song on it rocks. Pattern Recognition is the most rockin' song on there though. It was funny because when I heard it, it sounded mellow and laid back, but when it is played live, you can see the energy that goes into it and how much it rocks. The same thing is true for many other Nurse songs.

As for Murray street, I like all of the songs on it but I usually skip Plastic Sun. My favorite track on there is Rain On Tin.

Nurse has become my all time favorite album. Not only by SY but by all the bands I've listened to. I can't get enough of those perfect songs and listen to it at least twice a day. Dripping Dream is my favorite song. It simply blew my away. It was like falling in love.

am i the only person who dislikes stones? whenever i see em live / listen to bootlegs and the drums come i'm like here we go again...sigh....
dude ranch nurse, pattern recognition, unmade bed, i love you golden blue and mariah carey and the arthur doyle handcream are all excellent tho..

man the dripping dream still makes me lose my mind.

when narnack put it out as a 7" pre Nurse, it was entitled Mariah Carey...
then they changed it to Kim Gordon when Nurse came out, due to label pressure i suppose...
the original version of plastic sun had a lyrical reference to britney spears that was altered to greasy hair when Murray Street came out...

Nurse is, er.. my fourth favourite SY album. As songwriting goes though it's probably the most consistent they've been, in terms of writing great, melodic tunes. Paper Cup Exit is my favourite

I completely agree with you, except that maybe my favourite is new hampshire, but KG&ADHC really annoys me at times and then other times I find the strained singing pretty good.

Murray Street is a better album in my opinion. It's kind of sad for me that its been reported that since Jim left they're going back to more rocky songs, i loved how the songs on the last 2 albums had room to breathe if that makes sense

To me Murray Street will always have more of an impact on me, due to me seeing SY live for the first time during this tour . I also caught a show from the Nurse tour and it destroyed as I'm sure all shows by them do. I love Nurse, I think its a great record, my favorites are probably: Peace Attack, Paper Cup Exit, Dude Ranch Nurse, Stones, and Unmade Bed. I hope that the youth still has the sprawl of sounds thaqt they captured during the past two albums, I really dig the spread out aesthetic they have been utilizing, it suits me great, all being said tho I'm still extremely eager for the new release.

Sonic Nurse is definatly the best album by Sonic Youth to've come out in the 00's. A sublime album that's all I can say...oh except it's the album that got my ex into them.

Bleh. I enjoy Nurse. But compared to other Sonic Youth albums, it's just "ok". Really, nothing on the album strikes me as all that amazing. "Paper Cup Exit" is definitely one of Lee's weakest songs, it has this psuedo Local H feel to it. "Dude Ranch Nurse" has that annoying little guitar effect that I fucking hate.

But it's a nice album overall. I mean, Murray Street shits all over it, but I can put it on and enjoy most of it.

sonic nurse is a great album.. all the guitar "exchanges" are excellent!

Sonic Nurse is Sonic Youth's best album to date! Dripping Dream is simply one of the greatest songs ever written, I Love you Golden Blue is heart-rendering in a way that only Kim can pull off. If Rather Ripped continues where Nurse left off Sonic Youth will be entering their finest musical stage in my opinion.

Ok... let's not get carried away. I think Nurse is their best album since Dirty, but it is not in the same category as Daydream, Sister, or EVOL.

Nurse more & more often tends to be my favorite album.
Add to that that live versions were wonderful, which wasn't the case for the 87 & 88 lives from Sister & DDN I've heard.
One might think that live versions wouldn't count, but it does when what you hear is great. For instance, I would have never understood why so many people praised Rain On Tin til the moment I heard it played live, for I've never been that moved by Murray Street.
