help me, you fuckers

what the fuck are you supposed to wear to a wedding reception?

Cantankerous 09.30.2006 06:59 PM

thank you. you've all been very helpful to me.

finding nobody 09.30.2006 07:00 PM

a dress?

Cantankerous 09.30.2006 07:05 PM

dear lord, no, i'm not wearing pastels.

would it be socially inept of me to wear a black silk/satin slip dress with lace at the edges?

toxic johnny 09.30.2006 07:07 PM

Dear God no... it has to be pastel shades and very conventional and straight apparel... not your bag I'm guessing?...

Cantankerous 09.30.2006 07:10 PM

well it's not the actual wedding, it's just the party/reception. i have a huge assortment of things i could actually wear although none of them are seemingly formal enough to wear to a wedding party.

toxic johnny 09.30.2006 07:12 PM

Well if it's not the actual wedding... wear what the fuck what you want... not that I'm an expert... but express yourself and have a good time...it's not all about the bride and groom.

Cantankerous 09.30.2006 07:15 PM

yeah. fuck them.

i'm sure i will have a decent time for there will be lots of free booze.

toxic johnny 09.30.2006 07:17 PM

Just go and enjoy it... even if it's against your will...

Cantankerous 09.30.2006 07:19 PM

i'm sure by the end of the night i will have either made a spectacle of myself, as i usually do, or have moved to another party in which case it won't matter what i have on.

toxic johnny 09.30.2006 07:23 PM

I'm sure moving on to another party will be the best plan... always wise to avoid the drunken uncle making a fool of himself...

Everyneurotic 09.30.2006 07:26 PM

going with nothing on is considered of poor taste since you may take the attention away from the marrying couple.

just remember that and you'll be fine.

terminal pharmacy 09.30.2006 07:47 PM

go the black satin slip dress, in australia it is acceptable so why not where you are

i did end up wearing the black slip and nobody made any comments or anything and i didn't get too loaded or make an ass of myself and it was kind of boring although my prescence was kind of obligatory.

i'm not really a shocking kind of person, though. i don't intentionally play it safe but i'm not intentionally outlandish either.

alyasa 10.01.2006 10:33 PM

You need to look like truncated. :) She knows.

Cantankerous 10.01.2006 11:36 PM

i have a feeling that truncy and i share no common ground when it comes to our taste in clothes.

king_buzzo 10.02.2006 06:19 AM

like a purple dress or something

Cantankerous 10.02.2006 03:43 PM

it's a bit late for that seeing it was two days ago.

Black is associated with mourning and is the traditional color for funerals, so it's perhaps best avoided for a wedding.

unless it's a goth wedding

i saw wear fishnet stockings, and nothing else.

Cantankerous 10.02.2006 04:59 PM

i'm going to make a thread for every time i go out somewhere entitled "what should i wear today"

I totally wore all black to the last wedding I went to, and so did Mrs. Clone.
Nobody said anything.
