I'm in a general slump, but more pointedly, a musical one. I have no shortage of things to listen to, but for some reason, can't quite settle on anything that gets my proverbial mojo going.

Gimme something good to listen to. No pussy indie shit, though, Gooey.

The two bands that got me out a musical rut are The Residents and Sun City Girls.

Good call on the Misfits from Krastian, but I've worn them out lately, along with the Melvins. I can't hear Prick now without twitching. Thanks to toiletbowl, glice, and sonicl for shit I've never heard of. I'm not sure what I'm looking for exactly. Have you ever felt like you've listened to EVERY SINGLE ALBUM you own beyond the point of tolerance? Which is difficult, since I own a lot of shit (I suppose you can stress the word 'shit' as well).

Truncy, my recommendation is only worth listening to if you want something non-rock. If you're wanting to jump about and stuff, then don't listen to Anoice. I wouldn't want to recommend something that's not appropriate for the occasion.

cd reissues are easy to find and inexpensive. the original lps aren't that tough to locate either.

sometimes when i get in a rut such as yours i go out and buy something i never even thought to give a chance. results are mixed, but i've had many pleasant surprises. i got way into the backstreet boys that way.

The new Wolf Eyes is far better than Burned Mind. That Yellow Swans EP I reccommended is very fucking good as well.

The world music stuff that Nonwsuch was putting out in the 60s and 70s is almost always of extremely high caliber, and never very expensive either.
A heart second to Hat and Beard there. Those are definitely both fine albums.

Get Wagner's ring cycle. That'll take you forever to get a decent grip on, and even longer to get bored of it.

Or why not take up another hobby, like cycling, or shouting at walls?

It's positively freakish that you posted that, because I just got that as a birthday gift, and am positively loving it.

Someone long ago gave me an album that was either a. Jewish ceremonial music or b. former rabbis turned musicians - I can't for the life of me remember, it was ages ago - and it was fucking brilliant. I of course have lost it, and yearn for its magic once again (I realize that was entirely vague and unintelligible, but if anyone has any idea of what I speak of, if it is option b., please do enlighten me, I don't think it was all that obscure).

I've never been the hugest Wagner fan, so if it spins me into a further depression, my new hobby shall be an alternation between masturbating to secretly obtained vocal clips of Glice, and replacing his coffee creamer with bird feces.

I reckon you had Kol nidrei by Max Bruch. That's the first Jewish ceremonial music that springs to mind. If it was Klezmer [sp?], you're fucked with a description as vague as that (I don't think there's a great deal of ceremonial klezmer, but still...). Babi Yar by Shoskokovitch is a wonderful thing. I only bought it recently (my first SACD), and it's great.

How cosmopolitan am I? Wagner and non anti-semitic music. The veritable renaissance man, that's me.
