Artists: Sonic Youth
Sonic Youth - they're old but still rock, which is like totally crazy! - are to release an album of rare bits 'n' pieces on December 11.
The Destroyed Room: B-sides and Rarities will feature exactly what it says on the tin... sleeve... whatever. Unless it does come in a tin? No? Okay.
The full tracklisting is yet to be confirmed, but expect a selection of songs that screech and wail in all the right places. 'Cause that's Sonic Youth, innit. You know Kathleen Hanna, right? I really fancy her in the 'Bull In The Heather' video. True fact. You can too, by watching it here.

Their best b-sides are definetly "my arena" ,"terry's carrot" and "the bedroom".

I find her to be a really silly girl but i don't mind the odd Bikini Kill or Le Tigre song.

i'm wondering about that too... if the two instrumentals recently added on their myspace are anything to go by, it could well be released on goofin'.

i'm very curious about the tracklisting though, wondering what time span this will cover. the title would imply that there's also stuff from the dirty era going to be on this... which hopefully isn't going to overlap much with the extras on the deluxe re-issues.

I'm hoping for lots of unreleased material from the mixtapes, and from previously released stuff Blink and Within You Without You would be nice. But that latter one would also fit nicely on a Daydream Nation deluxe.

I guess that this is a DGC "end-of-contract-let's-milk-'em-for-a-few-more-dollars" exercise, rather than something coming from the band. Still, it's always welcome to get another SY release, even a compilation, and I can't believe it'll repeat stuff that's already on the Goo / Dirty repackages.

Considering that DGC have invested a fair amount of money in SY over the last 15+ years and let them do their own thing, I can't begrudge them a return on their investment. Surely it's better that they get the money and pay SY royalties than some drug-dealing, money-laundering bootlegger gets it and keeps the lot for himself.
