Music or film DVD?

Tokolosh 10.24.2006 12:41 PM

DVD: What type of movies do you like?
CD: Boris - Pink?

HaydenAsche 10.24.2006 12:41 PM

CDs:
Yellow Swans - Drift
Xiu Xiu - The Air Force, Knife Play, or A Promise
Wolf Eyes - Dead Hills
Wu-tang Clan - 36 Chambers
the Unicorns - Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone?

DVDs:
the Big Lebowski
Zoolander
I <3 Huckabees

Savage Clone 10.24.2006 12:44 PM

DVDs:
Anything by Svankmajer. "Alice" and "Faust" are both great, but the short films compilations are excellent as well.
Seventh Seal
The Wicker Man (the real one from the early 70s, not the crappy remake)
Kwaidan

The second season of Wonder Showzen is out now too, and the packaging is fan-fucking-tastic.

HaydenAsche 10.24.2006 12:46 PM

I know, Clone! Wonder Showzen is a brilliant show and the package was wonderful. A story book. Fucking brilliant.

Tokolosh 10.24.2006 12:46 PM

I must say that I tend to like your musical taste Hayden.
I still have to listen to Yellow Swans & the Unicorns.

HaydenAsche 10.24.2006 12:47 PM

Unicorns are electronic pop music. They are like Xiu Xiu except instead of rape and suicide think rainbows and ponies.

Yellow Swans are fantastic. You are a failure for never hearing them.

Savage Clone 10.24.2006 12:49 PM

I have also been on a big Avengers kick lately; for some reason a lot of these box sets are showing up used for cheap in my area.

Disgruntled Youth 10.24.2006 12:50 PM

It doesn't matter as far as music, DVD I would prefer a good movie; thanks.

I know!... At my age, I can't keep up with you young chaps.

Savage Clone 10.24.2006 12:51 PM

I think I might be older than you, Tokolosh, and I've seen and spoken to the Yellow Swans. You have no excuse!

HaydenAsche 10.24.2006 12:51 PM

I'll up something for you later. Send me an e-mail at hayden_asche@hotmail.com.

sonik death 10.24.2006 12:51 PM

Buy the 'Carnivale' DVD box sets, this is some of the best 'TV' I've watched in ages. If you liked Twin Peaks then definately check this out.

InsideOutside 10.24.2006 12:51 PM

White chicks- The big black guy, Latrell, is soo funny lol

Tokolosh 10.24.2006 12:52 PM

*Thinks of another excuse*

Savage Clone 10.24.2006 12:52 PM

DY:
"Pink" by Boris is a fine recommendation that I will second.

If you like HP Lovecraft type stuff, try and find "Dagon." This movie comes the closest to the way those stories look and feel in my mind of any of the (mostly bad) Lovecraft-related movies out there.

HaydenAsche 10.24.2006 12:53 PM

Send me an e-mail and you won't need an excuse, dill.

I passed on a used copy of season 1, and now I wish I hadn't. Those sets are EXPENSIVE.

I just recently completed a track for a compilation inspired by that theme. It looks like there's gonna be a great lineup!

sonik death 10.24.2006 12:56 PM

Yeah, quite pricy new / official. I think you can pick them up cheap as Japanese imports from Ebay, my copies were fine.
I'm always amazed that no one seems to know about Carnivale, it wasn't even shown in the UK!

Tokolosh 10.24.2006 01:00 PM

I've got Season 1. Why is it expensive?
We get Carnival in Holland. But I haven't been following it, so
I'll watch it on DVD.

Savage Clone 10.24.2006 01:01 PM

For TV-based DVDs, I also highly recommend the Danish 2 DVD set "The Kingdom." Surreal hospital weirdness. Stephen King later felt the need to do his own hack version, but the original Danish series is awesome.

sonik death 10.24.2006 01:03 PM

Yeah I think we got that in the UK, I couldn't get into it. All I remember was a talking Ardvark, is this the same thing?

Savage Clone 10.24.2006 01:05 PM

No talking Aardvark that I recall.
There is, however, the talking spirit of a young girl who is dead and preserved in formaldehyde in the bowels of the hospital.

sonik death 10.24.2006 01:07 PM

Were there loads of people with downs syndrome in the hospital?

Savage Clone 10.24.2006 01:08 PM

There are two suprisingly insightful and possibly psychic Downs Syndrome people who wash dishes in the hospital kitchen.

sonik death 10.24.2006 01:10 PM

Hmmm, maybe this was what I was watching, not sure..

It was a talking anteater in the crap Stephen King version. Like Savage Clone said, Lars von Trier's Riget I or The Kingdom is the one to see. Riget II is pretty good, but I haven't watched it completely... yet.
