please post as much as you can

HaydenAsche 11.01.2006 03:45 PM

Hmm. I don't know. Indie has changed drastically. I'll list some things you might like.

Xiu Xiu
Guided By Voices
Parenthetical Girls
the Unicorns
Islands
the Decemberists
Postal Service
Death Cab for Cutie
Arcade Fire

TheDom 11.01.2006 03:46 PM

POLVO
Neutral Milk Hotel

Rovetu 11.01.2006 03:51 PM

it has changed....maybe 90's indie could be what i'm looking for

HaydenAsche 11.01.2006 03:54 PM

I'm too young for that. Besides, it gets boring. I can't stand Dino Jr. so I'm probably no help.

theDom is right with POLVO and NMH, though.

Rovetu 11.01.2006 04:09 PM

hahaha i love dino jr, i like that style of strange chords in the song and some noisy parts

k-krack 11.01.2006 04:15 PM

NMH is one of the best bands (ever...) of the 90's, immense amount of hype or not.

drrrtyboots 11.01.2006 04:17 PM

wolf eyes, sightings, mouthus, excepter, MAGIK MARKERS. indie-tastic.

the ikara cult 11.01.2006 04:17 PM

Just go for Pavement and The Shins. Theyre probably the definition of "indie rock". Which just means Pop songs delivered in a slightly odd way.
And they are both terrific.

Well, for a start, your cultural life is incomplete if you've not heard The Gun Club's "Fire of Love" LP.

Once you've heard that, you should find a copy of the "Monsters, Robots and Bug Men" compilation, which is a pretty good "Post-Rock" primer.

Repped, because that is one of the funniest videos of all-time. "Do you have the garden state soundtrack? I hear it's indie-tastic!"

TheDom 11.01.2006 05:02 PM

Love Battery - Dayglo

Oh boy, I discovered them via UNCUT magazine, and immediately went on a month-long (unfruitful, mind you) search for this very album. I settled on downloading it, and loved it. Still haven't found a hard copy of it around here...

Cantankerous 11.01.2006 05:35 PM

the breeders

Trasher02 11.01.2006 05:59 PM

Unwound
Modest mouse
Giant drag
...

Rovetu 11.01.2006 06:19 PM

do you consider sy as indie?

Danny Himself 11.01.2006 06:43 PM

In a sense.

Thurston's "Psychic Hearts" album may be what you're looking for. Or failing that, go listen to Smashing Pumpkins or something.

Trasher02 11.01.2006 06:53 PM

Sebadoh is a nice band too if you like sy.

schizophrenicroom 11.01.2006 06:56 PM

les savy fav, xiu xiu, micah p hinson (he's a solo), the microphones, guided by voices

Rovetu 11.01.2006 07:11 PM

i dlded psychic hearts fron that album of thurston...very good

more music like that

Onani Nic 11.01.2006 09:38 PM

For me Indie Rock is defined by that book "Our Band Could Be Your Life". Rock bands on indenpendent labels. Find that book.

Bands written about in the book:

Big Black
Black Flag
Mission of Burma
The Replacements
Husker Du
Minor Threat
Fugazi
Sonic Youth
Butthole Surfers
Bad Brains
probably one or two more......

If someone asked me if I liked indie rock I would probably say "yeah, you mean bands like husker du, the replacements, meat puppets and mission of burma?"

HaydenAsche 11.02.2006 12:17 AM

I second:
Arab on Radar

Also:
the Swirlies
Hello Astronaut, Goodby Television

golden child 11.02.2006 12:58 AM

I disagree with Onani, to me Indie is just as much a genre of music as it is 'rock bands on independent labels'

there are indie bands on major label (see arcade fire) and non-indie bands on independent labels (see black flag)

most of the bands mentioned that post would be considered 80s punk/hardcore with a 'post' thrown in for good measure.

golden child 11.02.2006 12:58 AM

damn i suck at writing.

Norma J 11.02.2006 01:43 AM

I agree that the term Indie defines a genre, a sound, more so than a non-major label band.

Xiu Xiu Indie? I don't see/hear that.

It's true that indie has become more of a stylistic thing now, so your right. I'm just saying thats where the term originated from (thats the impression I got from the book anyway, i wasn't around at the time or anything).

youthoftomorrow 11.02.2006 02:36 AM

Big Black
Fugazi
Violent Femmes
Mission of Burma
Minutemen

They are indie in the fashion of newer bands. i.e. Deerhoof, the Unicorns, Arcade Fire, etc.

Inhuman 11.02.2006 02:34 PM

DISHWASHER. (listen to Again and Again )

Their album's coming out soon, ask me if you want a copy of it.

Oh, and check out Think About Life too, I know the vocalist and they just finished touring with Wolf Parade

I also agree with that

Cantankerous 11.05.2006 04:14 PM

you might like PJ harvey although i wouldn't exactly count her as indie. she still has the sound despite being on a major.
