No more Arab Strap
I only found out today they're splitting. Which is a grand shame. Fucking ten years! The First Big Weekend was one of the first 7"s I picked up as a confused little 14-yr-old, and still sounds great a whole decade later. Many times their particular brand of miserable comedy has comforted a cold winter night. If either of them bother to die, they'll rightly be called seminal legends.
Just thought some of you might like to know. And if you're not familiar with the band, where have you been for the last ten years? You utter prick. http://www.chemikal.co.uk/tenyearsoftears/ |
thats a shame but they hadnt done anything for a while. maybe aiden got really happy and found a girl he liked.
that is a shame indeed. they will be sorely missed. jon boys theory could be right tho......
I read that on the paper the other day and it is really sad news. One of those bands that soundtracked my youth in the 90s.
ALL HAIL THE STRAP!! |
I love them, and i'll see them for the first time in one of their "goodbye tour" dates...i'll probably cry all the night.
Bump!
I only heard a few songs, and have ever since been trying to find a cd here in stores... Those songs were fucking stellar. Shame.
Soaps:what a song....
That's a damn shame I just found about them and was really digging it, I hope they come to Detroit on this good bye tour.
check the live album mad for sadness. its fucking wonderful!!!!
I never really got into them but I do have their last album and its really great and Im sure their other stuff is even better!
I haven't heard Aiden's solo stuff, but Malcom's effort was fucking brilliant. AND he's with Lauren 'love of my life' Laverne, the bastard.
Are they still an item?

They are, and will probably remain so until that fateful day that Lauren 'future Mrs Glice' Laverne sets eyes upon my fine ass. You've seen it. You know she ain't going to be resisting my boot-ay. |
WHAT??!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!
this just fucking sucks ass!!!! shame, they were a great band. |
Bummer.....the dudes voice did get a bit repetitive to my ears though.
but never his lyrics.
'new birds' always gives me the chills. |
Lest we forget: do de do do de do do de do do de doo, do de do do de do do de do do de doo, do de do do de do, do de do do de do [...] The boy with the arab strap.
que pena! Although, I'm not really sure about their greatness. I have one cd (which i don't know the title of at the moment) i really like and a few other things downloaded, which vary from good too really ... slow.

I was listening to that just yesterday. Jeepers. Which begged the question, just because B&S use them, does that make recorders ok in pop? I think not. |
Arab Strap disband...The Pet Shop Boys reform...ah, the perpetual cycle of of no-talent musical artists...it's truly a wondrous wonder to behold.
Some of the best music ever made was by people with no talent. Never, ever discount the Shaggs.
"No-talent" was not a fair modifier, but rather an emotional one. Neither Arab Strap or The Pet Shop Boys are the bottom of the barrel, but I can't say I'm any kind of a fan of either.
This roommate of mine years ago told me about how when he was a small child that one of his first memories was making two lists, that I suppose were based his on experiences at recess during kindergarten. Recess...where the outside met the inside and the body said hello to the brain...anyway, he told me about how one piece of paper was chronicle of names of classmates deemed "good and on my team" and the other one was an enemies list titled "bad and not on my team."
