Apple O sounds pretty good.
|
I love em.
Dead! beast! queeeeeeeeeen!!! |
Reveille and Apple O are the best two of the three that I have (the third being The Runners Four). They are great.
|
Milk Man sleeps on the roof in the noon
Bana-na-na stabbed to the arms, weird man Ooh-la-la Milk Man sneaks in the house under moon Miracle words come to a mouth you may hear Peek-a-boo Come closer How beautiful I play sound Boys and girls Here I come I get you to escape night Boys and girls Be mine I'll take you to my dream land Now you're mine I'll take you to our dream land Milk Man smiles to you "Hi" in a nude "This banana stuck in my arms, oh my love" Stabbed to the arms, ooh-la-la Yellow one Boo, boo, the Milk Man Hi, hi, he's masked man |
Ace band. I like all of the albums but I tend to find myself listening to the Runner's Four the most.
|
i think i will get Apple O and Milk man when i get paid.
|
love em. if it wasnt for a couple of boardies here i would have never got into em. my personal favoutite album is revielle or apple o. but they all rule
|
I'm on a Runner's Four vibe today. Which isn't unusual for me.
|
Apple O is the beginning of the newer Deerhoof. Before they were a noise band with little glimpses of pop genius. All of their albums are loosely concept albums, or so they claim. Milk Man is of course a true concept album. Apple O' is my favorite. Milk Man is straight-forward but very good. The Runners Four is a polished version of the Apple O style.
One of the most original bands around today. And definitely one of the best drummers around. |
I have Apple O, Reveille, and Runners Four. All are very good. Saw them once at Coachella and once opening for Radiohead. Great both times, although I would love to see them at a smaller club.
|
fucking brilliant!!!!
my favorite album is still reveille but i love everything they've made. don't underestimate their older stuff-- it's fucking insanely wonderful "holdy paws" and "half bird" are extraordinary so is"the man, the king, the girl"-- i also have "dirt pirate creed" which is an atrociously pressed early version of his album. i love them! no band gets more euphoria out of me than deerhoof |
Great musicians, but I can't get past the helium-voice.
|
i used to love them
but after green cosmos and runners four i kinda lost the interest reveille and milk man are my favourites and Saunier is one of the most energetic drummers out there |
what? green cosmos is amazing. true there is a weird arab-pop song but come see the duck! you know that's mostly a compilation of old singles...
runners four has some low points, i don't like it when the dudes sing. satomi on the other hand is queen of the universe. |

i donīt know but green cosmos somehow really dissappointed me, after milkman i expected a miracle. runners four has itīs moments but everything sounds flat and worn in my humble opinion. |
i guess. i saw them live for the first and only time before runners four and they were awesome. i bought the japanese version of green cosmos at that show. LOVED IT. but i guess yes in runners four they haven't reached the peaks they did (for me) with reveille
|
Yes! Reveille, Milk Man, The Runners Four are my top 3. As far as I can tell, they can do no wrong.
|
I saw them before Chris Cohen quit, and it was one of the best shows I've ever been too. Satomi danced with us.
|
it's funny that satomi is such an introvert offstage
|
They played my living room three times in 1997-1998.
Greg's drumming is very fascinating to me. |
Holdy Paws... yeah that album rocks. In fact I think my favorite Deerhoof song is on that album... The Great Car Tomb. Saw them at the 40 watt in Athens this summer. The drumming is hypnotic.

oh lucky oh lucky oh lucky bastard & your living room that is awesome. his drumming actually reminds me of peoplie like bill bruford maybe-- you know what i mean? you are the more musically adept here, if i say he sounds to me like a prog-rock drummer, would you say i'm talking out of my ass? |

his drumming is amazing. i saw him play the drums while sitting on the floor and it was a fascinating site. |
I love this band and I think that they just get better and better. They've got a new lp released in January I believe.

Sure, there's something progressive about it. It's pretty jazzy and tricky, but not as ostentatiously tricky as a lot of other prog drummers. Bruford might be a decent comparison, but I can't say I've listened to much of his drumwork in years. Probably been 15 years! But what's so interesting to me about Greg Saunier's drumming is all the little rolls and fills he does around the edges of a straighted rhythm, and yet that straighted rhythm is always very sturdy and played with convincing power...or gravitas if you will. The drummer of US Maple also did a lot of nifty stuff around the edges of his beats. But it's a pretty rare sense or skill that these guys possess. When I had him in the studio here at KDVS a couple years back, I complimented him on it, and he explained how he developed this sense of how to play drums, and it was a pretty great story. "You remember how in 3rd grade, your teacher would give all the kids a little introduction to music education, just to see if you might be interested in music?" he asked. "I remember," I replied. "I was given a hand-me-down flutophone, better known as a recorder. I sucked at it and became frustrated. So, is 3rd grade when you first played drums." "Yes," he said. "I was in a little drum corps, and I was on a snare. At first we were just learning how to read sheet music for drums, and it took a while for some of the other kids to figure it out, so I was really bored. But once everybody had a handle on reading, we began playing as a group, and it was more fun. And then it became even more fun and I was really getting into it and thinking, 'Wow! This sounds totally awesome!' But just then, the teacher was like, 'Stop! Stop! Gregory, what are you playing???' And I showed her my parts, but she said, 'OH! You're on the wrong page. We moved on to the next page.' "And that's when I knew that I liked to play rhythms that sounded weird." |
dont like em much

========================================== DEERHOOF ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM, OFFEND MAGGIE ========================================== Deerhoof has just finished a new album, Offend Maggie, to be released on Deerhoof's longtime home, Kill Rock Stars. One song from Offend Maggie will soon be available from an interactive website as a downloadable written score. Fans (or foes, or perfect stangers) can then record the song and share their mp3s with others on the website. It is not yet known which song it will be. Everyone can hear Deerhoof's own solution to the song when the album is released October 7. The October release will be followed immediately by a world tour of all-ages venues and low ticket prices. In the meantime, Deerhoof will join their hip-hop buddies The Roots this weekend by performing at The Roots Picnic in Philadelphia along with Gnarls Barkley and others before heading off to tour Japan, then a free show in Brooklyn, an appearance at the Halifax Jazz Festival, and a night at the Hollywood Bowl. They continue to perform songs from Offend Maggie throughout these shows. Catch them if you can! when they started opening for bands like the flaming lips and radiohead. not to mention, all their records from revielle and onwards have been at their core, pop records. quirky, offbeat, eccentric, noisy, and awesome pop records, but pop records nonetheless. |
they are pop but they are much more foreground than, say, animal collective; i really didn't see it happen.
|
I miss their concert in Vienna...
