does any members of this board like green day?

finding nobody 11.26.2006 10:34 PM

I love the first four albums... Actually I think anything before american idiot is listenable. But the first four I enjoy alot.

golden child 11.26.2006 10:35 PM

listenable, but not mindblowing.
dookie isnt too bad.

Norma J 11.26.2006 10:42 PM

The first few albums I liked alot when I was younger. All the albums up to shitty Warning. I can't listen to them anymore.

Alex's Trip 11.26.2006 11:35 PM

My dad likes them.

I thought they were listenable up until American Idiot, at which point I hated them all together.

dietzer123 11.27.2006 12:38 AM

well damn you all i think american idiot had its moments

LifeDistortion 11.27.2006 02:14 AM

I'm going to go against the grain. I think Billie Joe has become a very impressive songwriter. The dude knows how to write a damn good song. "Christie Road", "She", and even songs like "Novacaine" and "Whatshername" off of "American Idiot" are very well written songs. I'm a big fan of lyrics and I must say Billie Joe can write some good lyrics

Norma J 11.27.2006 03:07 AM

I'm not denying he is a good songwriter, which is why I like the first 4 albums or so. Everything up until Warning. Terrible album and I don't like American idiot either. I really don't like the feel of them two albums. Insomniac is an album of class. I really like Nimrod aswell, good songwriting on that album.

Jico 11.27.2006 06:52 AM

young girls, with bad taste, tend to like this.

sonicl 11.27.2006 06:59 AM

My nephew likes 'em.

strictlycommercial 11.27.2006 10:41 AM

I still own 2 of their albums & they haven't been relegated to the drawer of asolescent horrors I never want to listen to again but feel too nostalgic about to throw away yet, so that's something.

I have nothing against them, except Warning (steaming pile), some decent tunes. As long as they mind their own buisness they're fine by me.

Plus I'm pretty sure they played an important part in the development of the tastes of a fair few of us.

king_buzzo 11.27.2006 10:51 AM

yeah, listenable

contrelefuckingsexisme 11.27.2006 10:57 AM

I have Zappa's Sctrictly Commercial poster over here.

Let's talk about anything but Green Day.

my dad quite likes them, and their older albums don't make me go 'AAAAARGH' and cover my ears. but i never really got into them personally...

stenson 11.27.2006 11:33 AM

Billie Joe is a goof. He probably walks into Pharmaprice, finds the most expensive eyeliner he can find, and outlines the front of his urethra for 14 year olds to lick off.

Aside from that, I like maybe one song give or take. They played "Time of your life" literally 7 times at my graduation ceremony when they could have been playing NaS's "Life's a Bitch" or O'Rourke's "Life goes off" if they wanted one of them "life" songs.

That's my two cents.

nature scene 11.27.2006 11:40 AM

"She" is proof that they had some talent. What happened?

Signpost 11.27.2006 01:45 PM

I don't care about them whatsoever.

Savage Clone 11.27.2006 01:48 PM

I cannot help but see this band as a band for junior high school kids and possibly parents of young teens who want to seem like "cool parents."

My stepdad took this up with eminem actually, when he wrote that apology to his mom song. He then realized that eminem used swearing, and he stopped.

Rob Instigator 11.27.2006 02:26 PM

I am not afraid to say it

I hate them. they suck shit. I wish they were all dead.
I hate their fake british accents they sing with, I hate their stupid music. I ahte everything about them. they are everything that is wrong with music. they are so fucking stupid they do not even know when they are being made fun of. i saw thruston and steve cold rip on dipshit "tre cool" and he had no fucking idea, right in his face, what a bunch of stupid bay area fucks.

Glice 11.27.2006 02:46 PM

I read this quote by Gerard Way recently - "If for one minute you think you're better than a sixteen year old girl in a Green Day t-shirt, you are sorely mistaken. Remember the first time you went to a show and saw your favorite band. You wore their shirt, and sang every word. You didn't know anything about scene politics, haircuts, or what was cool. All you knew was that this music made you feel different from anyone you shared a locker with. Someone finally understood you. This is what music is about."

I can't stand Green Day either, but I do agree entirely with that statement.

Yup, my entire 2nd & 3rd year secondary school was that song over & over & over, the song everyone knew how to play on guitar, that & Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. Thinking of it still stings a little.

But still, I can't summon up the strength to hate them. Fuck it.

blastscenealibi 11.27.2006 06:48 PM

I don't like them.

porkmarras 11.27.2006 06:52 PM

Green Day suck wichever way i look at them. The liking them/thinking they're this or not/Perhaps forgiving them thing doesn't bother me in the slightest.I say they suck, they suck..

I don't think people liking green day has to do with understanding. I know this, actually. It has to do with the punk-rock piosturing GD has now. The faux-punk get-ups, clueless politics, rebellious image (when they are being marketted that way). Most kids are dumb and will fall for bullshit like this, and record exec.'s know that.

It is a little grating that their supposedly politically radical album ended up being the most thoroughly commercialised, but again, fuck it. Kids have always had a tendancy to go for things that seem edgy but in reality are as safe & fuzzy as can be. Often they grow out of it.

That said, collaborating with U2 is inexcusable. Bastards! (Shake fist.)

I think everybody here is better than a 16 year girl in a Green Day shirt.

I really dislike this attitude that kids are stupid and that they are 'duped' into buying something buy an image which is 'fake'. By the point a band are in press, you don't know them, you don't own them, and their image is probably fake. This applies to anyone you could care to mention. Kids don't care about what they listen to. They do care, more than most cynical record collectors over 21, but they certainly don't care whether or not Billy Joe cares about the politics, whether he really means it man. Because kids are capable of actually, genuinely enjoying music, something that most adults forget how to do. And that is far more important than Green Days music, which, as I've said, leaves me cold (and has done since I was about 12, which makes this whole point somewhat circular).

I may well just change my signature to 'You are all cunts who have AIDS' in 20-ft letters. That'll fox the buggers.

porkmarras 11.27.2006 07:23 PM

Glice 11.27.2006 07:27 PM

Good for you. I'm not going to touch any of them for a while. Except for my namesake (ket), which I think will see me through ATP (Noise is best experienced on ket).
