Hall of Fame (rock n roll ish)
The inductees for 2012-2013 have been announced.
RUSH Heart Donna Summer Public Enemy Albert King Randy fucking Newman? Quincy Jones (as a "collaborator") Lou Adler (collaborator) while I know the RnR HoF is Rolling Stones magazine's personal wank-a-thon, and always chooses acts from AOR radio heyday, their attempts at including hip hop seem extra pathetic. They put in Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five, for ONE SONG They put in RUN DMC The put in PE now. Flavor Flav always said Rap was rock n roll. in fact he yelled it a lot. Maye he was right. Heart sucks. They have always sucked. fuck Heart. I hate their fucking shitty music Donna Summer...I like some of her music, but she is no rock n roller Randy Fucking Newman can go fucking die already. I hate that fuck and his songs and his music and his fucking voice and all his disney bullshit. Albert King was an amazing guitarist, an amazing bluesman, and I love his music, but it makes no sense to me to induct bluesmen into the RnR Hall of Fame. None at all. Being an influence on rock n roll does not merit inclusion into a rock n roll hall. Just my thoughts. Quincy Jones is a huge figure in pop music, and in music in general, but again, he does not have a rock n roll pedigree. RUSH. What can I say about Rush? I have friends who are die hard RUSH maniacs. I enjoy several of their songs. I respect them for doing what they do for 30 something years. I think they deserve induction purely on staying power, fan base, and influence. Just some thoughts. |
besides RUSH this list is a joke.
|
The need to graduate hip hop or disco artists to rock and roll status has been racist for years. It's only more acceptable now. Old news are still bad news.
|
I agree.
|
I find Sonic Youth's ''Kool Thing'' a stupid and offensive song and video, now, which it is.
|
but kim's shiny metal ass is in it....

agreed. its got some good riffs though! |
I am the sort of individual who busies himself with trying to hear John Coltrane references in Nirvana's ''In Utero'', which I decided can be heard only if I listen to it locked in a closet buried deep under the sea.

the place seems like a joke. it dont deserve the term "rock and roll"
it should just be a museum of music just like whoever else agrees that there are not "rock and roll" in there i'm not sure how true it is that Rush dont want to be in it. just because everyone hates them. there'd be alot of pissed off people about it. and i'm sure there would also be alot of pissed off Rush fans, just because they (the nominators and twats who choose from bands) dont even give music a fair enough chance. here's my view on Rush...i've been a fan ever since i was 2 or 3 when Closer To The Heart was a huge hit the first time around. i grew up listening to that stuff and yes. not all of their stuff is the greatest. shit, even the band admits to that themselves. but they try to change with the times. but guess what, they survived it all. they are a cult band and should remain that way. because, there seems to be alot of people who think they suck and that's based on Geddy's vocals. which yeah, sound fucked. but how is that anymore fucked up then David Lee Roth's? who gives a fuck about voices. it's about the music. and alot of people will shut them out at that point and just give up. yet, here they are. year after year after decade of decade. they are still here. it just can't be all about the vocals now is it? --=-- nowadays with Geddy singing the old songs. i can now admit that Geddy cannot sing like that, anymore. which is too bad, because i love alot of early Rush. i guess Grace Under Pressure was the last album i gave up on. it's got a couple good tunes, but they went to AOR at that point that they are just trying to fit in. unlike the previous album, which is all dark like. or you know what'd be better. let's say Rush get in. they accept the award. and then once on stage, they decline it just because KISS still aint in there, and they were one of the first bands to take them out on the road. so i would hope it turns into a protest instead. |
KISS not being in the rock n roll HoF is ridiculous
I agree that it should just be a Museum of contemporary music, or something like that,. I went on a side trip to cleveland to see the HoF 7-8 years ago, when I drove from Houston to Canton OH to the Pro Football HoF induction ceremony. (warren moon!) Getting to the RnR HoF was cool, as it is right next to lake Erie, but going in was a disappointment. They had some cool things indeed, but it appears that the Hard Rock Cafes have taken most of the good memorabilia! They had a fucking exhibit of "rock costumes" which was 3/4 consisting of pop shit like Cher, Britney Spears, and New Kids On The Block outfits! Madonna? wha? so stupid. Their biggest display was a tribute to Tom Petty. Tons of objects from musicians and performers that have never even been nominated for induction are all over the place. I did like seeing the giant fake amplifiers that Neil Young and Crazy Horse used on the Live Rust tour. That was cool, as well as an exhibit of Ramones clothing, and notebooks and lyrics sheets. It was a big expense though, The Pro Football HoF was my dreams come true. just very classy and filled with truly legendary (for football) items and people. The room of busts was so awesome. AWESOME If you are a american football fan you owe yourself to go. especially, if you are a die hard fan, go during induction weekend. I saw so many greats, and met some legends. I ate breakfast next to Bart Starr and his wife at Cracker Barrell! canton rules. ![]() Earl "The Pearl" Campbell |
Best anti-racism song ever. Wiser (and more incendiary) than anything than those Public Enemy wusses ever did.

PE rules man. Fuck Randy Newman.
|
I like in Canton! 10 minutes from the football Hall of Fame.
I was there once 15 years ago when some jock cousins came to town. |
Fuck Chuck D.
He wouldn't know how to write a truly controversial lyric if his pathetic street-cred depended on it. |
street cred is overrated.
Flav always had the best lyrics |

YEEEEAAAAAAHHHHH BBOOOIIIII was a great one |
Flavor Flav is the first taste you get in the morning
Your breakfast is the flavor |
I am protesting/not paying attention until they induct the Cure.
If Nirvana isn't inducted next year (their first eligible year is 14, yeah?) I will never read another article, start another thread, or engage in any conversation about the HoF. Nor will I drive through Cleveland. |
Yeah, that'll teach them!!

They exemplified ROCKnROLL!!!! Have you read the Peter Criss autobiography? I read a review that made me want to find this at the library: "Ace Frehly was a chronic masturbator". I can't imagine - and have no sympathy - how these guys could end up broke. |
they snorted up their money.
Gene is worth like a billion dollars. he had a degree in banking/finance/accounting before he started KISS. and he invests well, and he does not drink or do drugs, so he has little chance to blow money out his ass. |
those fuckers at Rolling Stone magazine prefer earnestness over actual ROCKING.
Here are some bands who should be among the honored bands, but are not. I am not a fan of all these acts, but by the criteria used to let other, far less deserving acts in the Hall, these fuckers should be in. KISS Kraftwerk The Cure New Order Joy Division The Smiths Judas Priest Iron Maiden The Pixies Depeche Mode Motorhead SONIC YOUTH Def Leppard Husker Du The Cars Jane's Addiction Ozzy Osbourne Black Flag INXS Devo any others come to mind? I don't know too much about the prog like YES, or stuff like Deep Purple... |
Did anyone see HBO's edited Hall of Fame show?
I DL'd it yesterday and saw half of it. had to forward the Cat Stevens stuff.... I will watch the Nirvana part tonight. |
Where did you download it?
|
the bay that is Pirate, did search for Rock Roll Hall Fame 2014.
|
Didn't know that particular site was still around. I'm gonna tell on you.
I was waiting for a file smaller than a gig and one came up. Can't wait to be totally annoyed at the whole show. |
Def Leppard? Surely you jest.
And as much as I love The Smiths, surely they are "earnest" as shit before "rocking" can be figured in. And kraftwerk are one of the most important musical acts of all time, but if it is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they are not in any way a "rock" band of any kind |
In any case, this whole thing is an outmoded baby boomer crap institution with arbitrary entrance requirements as far as I can tell, and deserves total indifference IMO.
|
I fully agree Savage.

?uestlove interview in Rolling Stone
How did you meet Kiss when you were 7? I was at a hotel in Buffalo, and my mom and dad [musicians Lee and Jacqui Andrews] were on the stage doing their last set. I go on the dresser to get 50 cents to get a soda, and I go up to the soda machine. Suddenly, the doors open – beep – out walk Ace and Peter and all their guards, sans makeup and they have all their Kiss memorabilia on, but still it's Ace and Peter. And I look I went, 'Aaaaaaah!' And then I ran so fast. I kept circling, screaming my ass off. And then, my dad did the most logical thing ever. He took me into the game room. Paul Stanley was playing a sit-down pinball game. Was there a group called Boston? Yeah. Did they have a big fat guy? Anyway, I was 7 years old. So it's Boston, Kiss and Kansas. And Paul was playing pinball and said, "I heard about this guy. This guy was scared and screaming and woke up the neighbors." And I got his autograph and I got Ace's autograph. I didn't get Gene's autograph. I didn't see Peter Criss after that. But it was the first time I saw that Almost Famous hedonistic debauchery atmosphere, all the women there. They basically took over the whole game room. And I got their autograph. That was my story all fourth grade. "I met them! I met them!" So to see them finally get this, they even affected me. So I'm so happy. So you're happy to have contributed to getting them in the Rock Hall. Yeah, and that's the first thing I asked about when they asked me to join. "Well, what if I vote for Kiss?" It was like the "funny idea." But once Tom gave that speech, I gave up all my choices. I'll fight for Sonic Youth next year. |
Kiss are terrible musicians and excellent businessmen.
That music is shit. Were I 15 years older I might feel differently, but seriously. Commerce? Branding? A triumph. Art? FUCK THAT. Garbage. |
Also, deep Purple wiped the floor with most of their contemporaries during the Blackmore/ Gillan era. Jon Lord killed and Ian paiste ruled. Holy shit, did those live boots kill. Scandinavian nights? Forget about it! Few could touch them.
|
YES, Deep Purple, The Cure, Sonic Youth, etc. the list of those who should be honored for their contribution to rock n roll is vast.
I have visited the rock n roll hall of fame when I was in Ohio for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony a few years back. There were some cool things to see, an exhibit of Ramone's persopnal items and pages from Dee Dee's lyrics sheet for one, but it was indeed masturbatory scene. The worst was a giant exhibit of stage outfits and costumes of people like madonna, britney spears, N sync, etc, decidedly NOT rock n roll. |
I finally watched the entire edited HBO broadcast of the ceremony.
Joan Jett singing Teen Spirit was OK, but she looks crazy as fuck with all the cosmetic surgery she has had. I LOVED Kim G singing Aneurism. She tore the shit down and it was the only truly awesome part of the thing (besides getting to hear and watch Grohl on drums!!!) She rocked it, gave it everything, and I bet there were some SQUARE ASS fucks in the crowd who were sitting there dumbfounded. Watching the skinny lady from St Vinnie sing was OK. she was really tepid, and the performance was bland. You cold see her body language afterwards as she walked off stage past Krist that she thought it could have been better, Lithium is not a song I would have chosen to perform. That's just me. Then Lorde (not Madonna's daughter Lourdes) sang All Apologies, which is to me the most boring Nirvana song ever, and she did her spastic broken marionette bullshit as she was prepping to sing, which was annoying. |
Joan Jett doing Teen Spirit was great. Not sure about Kim though. The energy was lacking for me.
|
Never seen a 60+ year old rock that hard frankly.
Joan rocked it too though. |
Quote:
What has that got to do with her performance though? Rob, you let me down when you write shit like that. |
The other ladies can't compare to this though.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOHvCIPPKH0 I didn't pay much attention to St. Vincent before and I don't know why. Excellent performance. |

I'm still amazed at the transformation of Def Leppard between, 'High & Dry' and 'Hysteria.' H&D recorded using minimal tracking where Hysteria used for thirty for each song. Thomas Dolby did all of the programming / keyboards on Hysteria for a quick money grab and was insistent he not be credited for ANY OF IT......cost him millions over the years in royalties. Between 84 - 87 or so, many groups "changed" sounds to something a little more electrical: ZZ Top - Afterburner Van Halen - 5150 Ozzy Ozbourne - The Ultimate Sin Rush - Grace Under Pressure Yes - 90125 In my opinion, it all started with Alabama's, 'The Closer You Get' release back in 83. A few months back, Dead-Air allowed his son to pick all the songs for a, 'What's This Called?' that was taking place on his sons birthday. The show started with a track from the new Joan Jett album is it was great! I will be picking up that album soon enough...... |
