Canton, OH. Home of the Football Hall of Fame. Not ONE indie record store. I can entertain myself fairly well, but sometimes being here is a fucking drag. Is there anyone here who lives in Canton? That would be great. Holy shit, I feel alienated, and not in some hip way, either. Just KNOWING another SY fan lives here would make me sleep a lot sounder.

get over it. Every town sucks regardless of if there are indie music in it. You're always going to find something that bothers you about every place you live the rest of your life.

hah yeh i live in a redneck town too.
my town is one of the biggest mining towns in somewhere.
so everyone here is a bloke and works in the mines.

my town is full of rich people or people pretending to be rich.. all they care about is looking good and having everything the magazines tell them to buy.. i'm happy to move to the city next year!

i know, belgian roads are terrible :D once you know your way a bit, it's ok, but for the rest.. i always manage to get lost, even by bike :P

I went to Antwerpen in february to visit my uncle, he has an amazing apartment there that looks out over this huge cathederal. Being in a band pays pretty well.

if it was this cathedral, he lives close to my future home :D

yeah thats the one, there's a great ice cream place around the corner from there.
He is a band called The Mark Foggo Scasters.

i haven't heard of them but if he lives from his music, he must be pretty well-paid :D or does he also teach? thats what a lot of musicians do (including my mother)

no, he just tours alot, he got to go to japan earlier this year, and last year he played at some huge metal festival, he was the only ska act there.

thats pretty impressive.. most belgians try to play as much as possible during the summer (festival season) and that helps them through the rest of the year.

actually i feel better. you'd be miserable anywhere at anytime. now I can say to myself, "well, at least I'm not him." Thanx!

it is a beautiful small town man. BEAUTIFUL. very differrent architecture than there is in Texas.

That sounds like how it is here in Charlottesville, Va. Rich people from all up and down the east coast (many from NYC) are now moving here (we were ranked the #1 city in America a couple of years ago and have placed well since) and we have a large retirement community developing as people are optiing not to retire in hot, humid, hurricane-prone Florida as much anymore.

We have two independent stores; both are the same company and they have two different locations.

As some may remember, one of the locations is a short jaunt from me over a stream, up a hill and through some woods behind my house.

Canton, OH has been Rob Instigated. It no longer sucks.

The grass is always greener on the other side. Sucks doesn't it?

Ugh. I feel for you. I thank my lucky stars I live in a town with two independent record stores. That's why I try to support them as much as possible and buy my music only there.

But don't feel alone. There are many places like your town, unfortunately. Maybe you could check out where there are still good record stores nearby in Ohio and take some day trips to visit them?

On the contrary. I am far from miserable. Unlike you, I don't sit around and think about how badly my town or city sucks. I used to, I think everyone does at some point in their life. Maybe my tone wasn't the best, but the point I was trying to make is that if you let insignificant things -- like how many sonic youth fans are nearby or how many indie record stores are close by -- bother you, you completely miss out on all the great things in life that are happening. You'll learn one day that the things that make life great have nothing to do with where you are, but whom you are with.

It is not that bad of a town, really. I would gladly move back up there.

Best things in my town are - two indipendant record stores called Tempest Records and Swordfish, The B'ham academy, the bull ring and in the suburb i live in there is this.
