What albums should I buy to be cool like the kids?
I once thought just owning Rather Ripped made me golden, but apparently that's not enough (tic).
What are the cool kids listening to that an old man like me should get hep to, can you dig what I'm laying down, groovey cats? |
Xiu Xiu seems to be pretty popular among hipster kid types.
|
I'll have to learn how to say it first. With a straight face.
|
No other suggestions?
Maybe there aren't any cool kids here. |
I have no fucking idea what the cool kids are listening to!!
a few years ago my friend michael gave me a KINSKI album for my birthday. he said he walked into our local indie store and literally asked the clerk "what are the kids listening to?" and the clerk told him that the kids were buying KINSKI albums out the wazooo. ha ha ha!!!! |
They should buy Kinski out the wazoo.
One of the best live bands in the country. |
haha kinski?
But yeah, "A Dipset Christmas" looks promising for christmas tunes. You should check it out. It's the new "cool" traditional holiday mix. |

all the partially educated hip culture kids are listening to the masterful avant grime ramblings of "the national plasterboard orchestra".
we get together and carry plasterboards from one end of the room to the other and record it all direct to 180 gram vinyl. then we get smashed and piss on the floor. it's wonderful. |

But what bands have emerged from it?
|
Drive Like Jehu is a band people call math rock. They're a wonderful band though.
I think the term math rock came from the fact that the bands have thechnical beats. not like most songs that just have a 4/4 beat. Also, i think it was because the songs changed alot |
I see.
|
I like Drive like Jehu.
|
How about punk funkadellic?
|
Never heard of them.
|
Drive like Jehu math rock?Surely that's slightly wrong?
Billy Mahonie would be a more apt candidate to name just one band you'd throw into that vomitorium. |
Drive Like Jehu ain't no math rock.
Drill For Absentee and Rodan were math rock. And Shipping News, which is a band I got lots of love for. |
Another band of that ilk :
Fridge |
Arcwelder
|
i'd say polvo were "math rock"

Listen to Bernard Purdie. Because all kids I consider being cool know how to swing their hips to soul and funk.

Nice, good call. I actually knew Deltron 3030 even before I knew Del tha funkee Homosapien. I love how he revolves the whole album around the year 3030 and how music's going to take over. As for the math rock Static, check out Don Caballero and Weights and Measures. Another artist some consider Math Rock is Q and not U. Other stuff to listen to: -Cibo Matto -Yuka Honda -Plastic Ono Band -Sigh -Aki Onda -Big Youth Anyone into those I'd consider pretty hip. Enjoy! |
math rock had some good bands. it was not a term chosen by the bands though.
polvo rule all. metroschifter was good and had some of the angular odd tim4e signature elements |
