what do you mean? do you not live in yr country?
i like christmas too, i'm going home to my family.

candymoan 12.20.2006 05:00 AM

i find the holiday season very depressing..

i don't mind the excessive time off, and the indulgence that comes with it, but it always brings me down.. everybody pretending to be happy...
it gets to me...

Whaaaaat???????? Why are you thinking of dropping out?

lucyrulesok 12.20.2006 08:30 AM

well, to be honest Oxford is a crappy place full of crappy people. it's a really depressing city, and i can't describe how good it feels to be back in london, despite having already had about 20 arguments with my mum. it's a tough decision though, because i'm really enjoying my course, but i'm desperately unhappy there...

i haven't made up my mind at all yet...

ALIEN ANAL 12.20.2006 08:35 AM

fuck, i do nothing anyway, so everyday is a shitty boring holiday. I wanna get pissed and do lots of drugs.

Are you at Oxford, Oxford Brookes or another?

lucyrulesok 12.20.2006 08:39 AM

Oxford itself....
I guess I just thought there would be way more interesting people there, but I appear to have been very wrong. The place is full of public school twats with too much money who like getting really drunk in shit clubs and guffawing whilst being misogynistic and violent.

cuetzpalin 12.20.2006 08:40 AM

nothing special. i hate this xmas time. very depressing to me

sonicl 12.20.2006 08:41 AM

To Lucy:
Oh yeah, I can well beleive that. All the people who went to Oxford from my school were stuck-up pretentious twats, and those that I've met since remain so.

The trouble is that in certain circles the fact that you have an Oxford degree will get you a long way in your chosen career, regardless of whether you're any good at the job or not.

What sort of course are you doing?

jon boy 12.20.2006 08:54 AM

i am on permanent vaction baby.

One of the hardest things is that I know that I wont be able to get another degree that is as respected as the one I will get from Oxford. But I don't know if I can put myself through 4 years of misery to get that degree. But then I also don't know how the next four years are going to go, I could meet some very cool and down to earth people, and have a great time. Or I could not. Or I could go to another uni and hate it just as much there and come out of it with a worse degree. It isn't an easy choice to make...

I'm studying Classics, possibly the most useless degree one can do, but very interesting and fulfilling.

sonicl 12.20.2006 09:26 AM

Hmm, that's a tough one. I have little in common with the people I work with, and as a result I hate going to work (this board is all that keeps me sane), so I can understand how tempting it must be to drop out of uni in the same circumstances.

But hey, you're not there now, so who gives a f***? What are you doing over the rest of the Chrimbo break?

jon boy 12.20.2006 09:31 AM

its strange because a lot of people who go to uni and graduate dont actually do anything remotely connected with what they studied. in my experience anyway.

same to you!
have a really reaallly good time;)

Prisstina 12.20.2006 10:06 AM

I just finished off my midterms for my freshman year of highschool yesterday. Therefore, I start my winter break today, and come back to school on January 4th.

The rest of the school district (Milwaukee Public Schools, the largest in Wisconsin) has school until Friday because my school is an International Baccelaureate school, meaning we have a totally different schedule altogether. I had to go back to school from summer vacation on August 16th, while the rest of the district had summer vacation until September 5th. I suppose going back so early sucked, but we get out for summer vacation in May instead of mid-June.

So now I'm sitting here bored because my boy has school until Thursday (different school district). At least midterms are done.

Well, that kind of degree will probably open doors into various careers because it is an Oxford degree. But that would also probably involve socialising with the same Oxford twats that you dislike and those same people will be in any jobs you get as a result.

There are neat folk and twats at any university...you might be of a similar disposition to myself and think that a large number of people are twats and won't be much more happy at any other uni (but maybe a bit more). Or you might actually be a nice person and not a cynical bastard like me... :)

o o o 12.20.2006 10:24 AM

i'm on holiday since last friday. i'm visiting my parents and there's not much happening, but the relative boredom is quite satisfying for the moment. i'm reading a lot. on saturday, my brother will also come to visit, along with my neice and my nephew (well, his children). i will have the opportunity to give my brother his more-than-2-months-overdue birthday gift. then next tuesday I'll be flying back to Berlin.

we were actually thinking of spending some time in Belgrade around new year's eve, as one of my friend's sister is currently living there... but eventually it did not work out...

My school only gives out 10 days of Xmas vacation, and I'm pretty sure that includes weekends. You're lucky.

But I would really hate to go back to school so soon, I like that I don't have to worry about going back untill september.

o o o 12.20.2006 10:26 AM

what is "classics"? is it related to literature?

Classics is the study of ancient culture, namely the Greeks and Romans. Literature, language, history, culture, philosophy, art, architecture etc.

IM GOING TO AVOID THIS SHIT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE BY DROWNING MYSELF IN WORK, BOOKS, DRINKS, MUSIC, MOVIES, OR ANYTHING THAT TAKES MY MIND OFF THE AWFUL & PHONY CELEBRATIONS.

then i'm going to gear up for new year because that holiday is outright artificial and makes no pretense of being otherwise, and hence it is a good occasion to get plastered beyond all recognition.

Inhuman 12.20.2006 06:10 PM

Merry Christmas to you too Jico (and everyone else!).I started holidays last week as well being that I only had 1 exam. This break I'm spending excercising, applying for jobs, and reading up on bands and getting into new music. I will also spend the most of my time productively posting on this board. On the 27th I'm going to montreal, partying at people's houses until new years day, and then coming back on the 9th to go to a party with people I used to work with. After that I'll probably be spending the rest of the days on here.

That's a contradiction in terms surely? Productive posts? Here? Surely you jest?

haha, I intended a little sarcasm in the post, but hey! It's still more productive than playing Warcraft 3 all break long

i see... i was confused by the word "classics" but indeed starting to think it was about ancient philosophy, so i guess i was not that far... it certainly sounds very interesting.
