Are Sonic Youth your very favourite band?

I love Sonic Youth and The Fall with equal intensity, so I thought I'd ask all of you nice people how you feel...

Absolutely.

It's a toss up betwwen Mudhoney and Sonic Youth. One week is mudhoney the next it's SY.

It causes problems as to which band I get a tattoo of.

i love the grateful dead. a lot. i also really like nin, but in a different way. so that is my answer.

I can't really choose a faovrite band..

I... kind of like SY more conceptually and intellectually than I do particulary want to lie in front of buses for them. The musician in me draws more inspiration (conceptually, not musicologically) from them than any other band I can think of. But the other 'me' is mad for the Fall.

The Fall have about 4 songs an album that turn me into a dribbling loon incapable of doing anything other than go.... "Gaaahahffffhghghgrrrhghgh... that's... really... quite... goooooood....."

Other bands who do likewise... NNCK and Fushitsusha and Hank Williams.

seriously the youth is probably my favorite band but i'm not listening to them a lot these days. just scored a lot of records in dc & new york & the only sy i got was the ep, which is, by the way, awesome-- but i have animal collective in heavy rotation these days-- they are not my "favorite" band however, just listening to them a lot until i get them out of my system or something.

I don't listen to any band on rotation.....including Sonic Youth.

Sonic Youth is even with CKY for my favorite band. I think if CKY had about 10 more albums out then they would be my favorite.

To be honest I like The Notwist, The Cure, Radiohead and Television more than Sonic Youth :o

They're firmly entrenched in my top 5 along with: Fugazi, Social Distortion, Sleater Kinney, and Bad Religion.

I'm new to the gossip board (so hi everyone) but I have to admit SY have to share the favorite title with Sleater-Kinney and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club in my book.

in the last 10 years i havnt like any other band as much as sonic youth up until a few months ago. now erase errata is tied w/ sonic youth. i might even like erase errata a little more now ...shhhhhh

When it comes to bands Sonic Youth are my favorite, but as far as music in general They are not.

I prefer Radiohead, Augie March & Pink Floyd over S.Youth. But their top 5 five and always will be

i can't possibly rank one band above another. i love different bands for different reasons, most of which i can't identify. i don't really know exactly why i love SY, nor how much i love SY in relation to other bands. but, they are very special to me (and you, as well) and that is all that matters.

EDIT: i take that first sentence back. i rate SY over Limp Bizkit.

Yes, Sonic Youth are pretty much my favourite band. No other band makes me feel excited and happy like they do.

Going to see Mogwai live next weekend for the 1st time in my life! Man I'm so fuckin excited!

i don't really have a ranking system. For me sy is the best band ever but this could change in 2 minutes though i will always love sy

Sonic Youth has more than often been my favorite band.
Once Dinosaur Jr won my affection (til I saw them live), then I got back to SY. Then came (back) the Cramps, then Girls Against Boys. I grew tired of them in awhile & went back to SY. Then blasted the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion (but their last two albums weren't as fine as Acme or Now I Got Worry... but they ain't dead yet).
Sonic Youth never seems to wane.
The Fall, Television Personalities & Thee Headcoatees are well represented on my shelves.
