Recorded at the Rotterdam International Film Festival in January 2005, this explosive piece from Text Of Light typifies their abilities as a vivid freeform improvisational unit. Ranaldo and Licht’s measured guitar work sets a basis on which Kreiger’s blaring saxtronics, Barnes’ percussive explorations and DJ Olive’s swirling turntable incursions can intertwine and augment one another. This piece ebbs and flows, each of the players listening intently and guiding the proceedings with disarmingly sublime yet focused
intensity.

Like all their recorded works to date, this piece was delivered in tandem with a live film projection – this interaction between 20th Century abstract and experimental film and live improvised performance at the very core of the unit.

well all the kids in the hospital want a copy so hope you got the dough.

i have not actually heard much by tol but what i did sounded amazing so i really wanna get into more. actually having a decent mp3 player now means i can fit stuff like that on there.

If my having a copy means that one of the children in the hospital would have to miss out, then I think it's only right to do the decent thing, and ask that the child who misses out is one who is in a private ward.

i'm guessing this is an excerpt of the performance and not the whole thing, right? it being called "rotterdam 1" and also a 3-inch cd... don't think they hold more than 25 minutes or so at maximum.

Thats the beauty of room 40 - doesn't matter what time you email Lawrence will shoot you one back in an hour tops....usually less.

The CD looks amazing - a 3" encased in a standard format cd size.....hard to explain but therefore the remainder of the disc (from 3" to the edge) is clear see thru plastic.

Yeah, I did. I checked every uk stockists site, but couldn't find such a release. I search with 'Rotterdam.1' 3"CD keyword and than with text of light and i've only find metalbox (well and other ranaldo's releases like celestical answer tempted to buy).

Give it time, it will appear. It could be worth emailing the stockists to check if they'll be stocking it.

I've used Small Fish and Boomkat in the past and found them very good.

it has only just arrived at room 40 here in australia this week - from what im to understand lee doesn't even have his copies yet and its not a massive edition so i would hesitate to wait for small fish to start stocking it? i could be wrong tho?
its pretty cheep just ordering from the website as the price already includes postage.

Are you linked with Room40, golden blue? If you are, I'd just like to say, that's a damn good label you have there. I only have a couple of releases, but I really should get more.

yeah, copies won't get to the UK for another few weeks. likely to be early february before they hit the shops. Smallfish, Norman Records, Post Everything, Warpmart and Boomkat should definitely carry copies when it is available and it will likely show up in a few other places... UK distro is through Baked Goods. I don't know how many copies they'll be ordering in yet...

But yeah, AU$20 is a bargain, and this is a killer set so worth grabbing it from Loz direct if you're keen - and picking up a few other room40 gems while you are at it!
