i just got NYCG&F and i fucking love it
every song is good, which is a rarity. Kim's vocals can really bother me (i can't stand her songs on Washing Machine) but i like her songs on this one. "NYCG&F" is one of SY's best.
yr thoughts? |
how could anyone not like it
|
i really like this record. i only recently bought it as well, but it's amazing.
i went into it not expecting anything, as the reviews i've seen usually tend to love it or absolutely despise it - all things aside, it blew me away. |
NYG&F is my least favorite of all SY albums.
Kim's singing on Washing Machine maybe her best singing. |
I love Kim's word spoken poetry lyrics on "Lightnin'". & the lyrics to,
"Small Flowers Crack Concrete" are fucking amazing. |
It's probably my least favourite SY album but it still kicks ass.
|
amazing album, took me a while to get it (as in get into it rather than purcahse it) but one of my favourite sy albums.
|
The artwork to this album is well put together. My favorite piece of artwork in that album is D.A. Levy's, "The Spiral Drawing".
|
amazing album! one of my sy favourites
|
Truely a masterpiece! Hardly anyone likes tho. I played it to my friends and they wanted to run out the room by the second song lol! I think you have to really be a SY fan to appreciate its subtle beauty!
|
Yeah, it's a real simple mixture of artwork by the group, & other artist's.
Including the man, the genious, William S. Burrough's. What an album cover. I love this album! |

I played Washing Machcine for my friends once and they wanted to run out of the room halfway through "Becuz". Some people just don't understand....*sigh* Yeah....NYCG&F is a great album. |
Not my favorite album. I think it is okay, though. I haven't had much time to 'digest' it.
|
counting out streamxsonik subway i think this album is better than anything sy has ever done...
|
Oh, how sweet it is to get a nut by you. (ha ha) (sorry Marvin Gaye)
|
thats a nice album ! thats the album that brought them to South America for the 1st time. Fond memories of that era
|
This was the second album I bought by Sonic Youth. I was expecting another Dirty because that was the first album I bought. As you could imagine, I was surprised by the sound, but for some reason I loved it right away. I think it's one of Sonic Youth's more unique albums and I love how it only has 8 tracks for some reason. My favorite song is definitely the opener Free City Rhymes.
|
I love this album too. I don't get why so many people dislike it. Free City Rhymes is definately the best.
|
Do any of you freaks here remember Lenny?
|
I can't remember his last name.
|
fucked up in cleveland
the title track still blows me away everytime i hear it. and nevermind, amazing. second only to WM. |
I don't like the record very much (except for the title track).
|
oh... this album is just pure gorgeous bliss...
Meet me on the corner Thursday Wear your Special Underwear Sway side 2 side Automatic Special Underwear |
It's actually one of my favorites Sonic Youth records
|
as well you should love it. it's fuckin redunkulously kickass |
NYC Ghosts & Flowers became a sonic epic ... along with Diamond Sea
and yeah NYC is fucking great ..... |
it's my 7 year-old son's favorite album ever, and it was my most-listened to of 2004.
|
it's an acquired taste. if you don't like it now, try again; you will.
honestly, i think streamxsonik subway is among the most underrated sy songs of all time. you have to have been on a nyc subway and felt the chaos of people rushing in and out, the incredible speed with which the trains whip about, and the monotonous screeching of the wheels to really get the song, but when you have you know that the song captures the experience perfectly. not to be an elitist ass, but i pine for the days when sy was this inaccessible to the layman, when they were this . . . weird. |

are you serious? haha that is so cool. Free City Rhymes is the best. THE BEST |
NYC Ghosts and Flowers I think is one of my favourite albums. I just remember picking it up and being hesitant of listening to it, but it fucking clicked RIGHT AWAY. I just remember going "Wow, SY is awesome, but I wish there was something that sounded different, don't really know how to put my finger on it..." and NYCGandF was the sound I was looking for. I love it so much I bought the shirt with the Empire State Building on the front and "NYC Ghosts and Flowers"on the back.
NYC G+F needs to be played on tour this year. Come on guys. Surprise us and give Lee and awesome song. |
Haven't heard it.

Death poems for the livin' gods of America
Great masterpiece, one of my fav A mystic album, something reminds me the athosphere of Bad Moon Rising, don't know how |
Honestly, the production is really bad;
The songs themselves sound like the post-marijuana musings of college kids; And the album art is pretty tacky too. This, along with Thousand Leaves, are the dark days of SY for me. Thank god for Murray Street! |
I think "Murray Street" is more simplistic than "NYCG&F". Not that that's a bad thing, but I dig "NYCG&F" just a little more than "Murray Street". Just by a hair.
|
fuckin love this album, down to the Borroughs Cover.. pure class...
Hey do any of you freaks here ever remember Lenny?? |

There's some great shit on that album. I love Renegade Princess
|
when i first heard it i thought it was horrible. it took me about a year to fall in love with it.
|
"Reneaged Princess" is a classic track. I think it's one of the best songs of the 21st Century.
