If you could chat with Kim, what would you ask her?
Hi,
It looks like I'll be interviewing Kim Gordon for a literary magazine. Since she has given oodles of interviews where the same questions have been asked again and again, I thought I might enlist the help of the S.Y. aficionados who frequent this message board. I’m sure that you guys can offer a good number of intelligent questions. Many thanks for your help. |
this wouldnt be happening if you didnt get out last night...
GO DO YOUR HOMEWORK MAN. |
Does anyone else have anything to add? Sorry to perturb you Compulsive.
|
i was just joking...
|
what was your favorite piece from marc jacob's fall collection?
have you ever consulted thurston about his need for sunscreen? seriously, in some pics, he's burnt to a crisp. |
BTW way folks, I'm a longtime SY fan. I've solicited your help because I'd like to do an article that hardcore listeners, such as yourselves, would appreciate.
|
that was my question for her!
|
but i jest. my question is what her views are on the whole riaa/music sharing thing and downloading of their music.
|
ask her why shes so coldhearted and scares the shit out of people with her stare.
|
I'd like to ask her what has been her biggest influence in her clothing style. I would also like to know how she stays so young looking (genetics?). I was also wondering what it is like to be the only woman (or so it seems) when they travel (all guys in the band, the roadies, etc).
|
Her brother is well read and studied philosophy when they were growing up. I have wondered if she studied the same topics, or if she spent most of her free time with art projects. If she read a lot, what did she read, and what influenced her the most?
|
What her favourite Youth Record is.
About any upcoming Youth releases (reissues, SYR's, and what-have-you). What happened to the big ol' glasses? ... |
who sits shotgun in the family volvo
|
What's the last record you heard that really blew your mind?
What blues records do you think have influenced you and Sonic Youth the most? Do you ever visit your message boards? |
granny panties?
|
How was Los Angeles when you went to school there? What where your dreams as a child? Is there anything that would make you happy today?
|
if you hadn't moved to ny and of course been in sonic youth, what do you think you'd be doing today?
|
How has being a mother affected yr style of writing, sketching/drawing, playing, etc.?

I hope that doesn't come across as agressive, I'm just inquisitive. And ignore the stuff about her being cold, she was lovely when I met her. My heart melts just thinking about how friendly she was. |
If she does believe that Kurt Cobain was murdered, as has been quoted, who does she think killed him?
|
I'd like to ask her what she thinks of the mainstream music industry at the moment vs the underground...I'd like to know her views of the whole so-called 'emo' scene thats going on, particularly since she used the term 'Emo Boy' on Sonic Nurse, way before it had entered the public consciousness in the way it has over the past 2 years.
something about who SY might sign to in the future and what has been the difficulties with Geffen...I always thought 'Incinerate' had more of a chance of getting mainstream airplay than anything they have ever put out, how Geffen didn't seem to recognize this is absurd to me. Any more SYR stuff planned? PLEASE RE-RELEASE MADE IN USA |

I hope you get something of use from here. I'm sure like a lot of people here, I can't think of anything that hasn't been asked before. Good luck with the interview. |

which of the sonic side projects she likes the most.
something about fashion. something about films. |
Would Sonic Youth ever tour with Nine Inch nails?
What Cd's do you hate that Thurston plays? What is your favorite dish? Are you still obsessed with celebrities? If so with which ones? |
well, as it is a literary magazine, you could ask her what is the book that has influenced her life the most, what literary era is her favourite, her favourite writers, does she write poetry/stories etc, what she thinks of lee and thurston's writing, the process she goes through when she writes lyrics...
there are loads of questions like that you could ask. |

Don't bother with the Cobain bull. Let that shit die. |
I guess the main thing most of us would be interested in is the stories/meanings behind her lyrics.
Can she recommend books/poems to aspiring writers who are influenced by her lyrics? Does she like to elaborate on the meaning of her lyrics or not? Who are her favorite lyricists in modern music? Does she think that musicians in general have much to offer the literary world? |
If you could lock 10 "celebrities" (meaning public figures of any walk) in a rocket heading straight into the face of the sun, who would they be and why?
|
Since she's been in an American University. How do English studies in American Universities treat rock song lyrics? Are there special courses or something like that? Here in Argentina they seem very underestimated.

I had a whole list of these questions to ask but I decided they were stupid. |

Daitro, Raein, Phoenix Bodies, Moss Icon, etc... I guess. But It depends which emo we're talking about, and the whole "real emo" controversy has gone way out of hand |
