he's the new Bob Bert. |
also forthcoming is the proper follow-up to insignificance, which is expected to be released next year. happy days indeed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktqjiv0FHsk
that was so fucking hilarious. clap for me bitches. |
I was a bit surprised to see this on Bandcamp, considering that Jim mentioned he doesn't really endorse this sort of distribution/streaming platform when he was interviewed a little while ago by Time Out Japan. It's actually pretty great to have these available, and I shall get them all (slowly but surely).

I agree, poor form!!! ![]() |
Yeah, but, Jim left sy nearly 10 years ago, so...
|
I can move the thread to the Sonic Section if you want....
|
If it'll help spread the love Stu, move it

Steamroom 9 is now available on bancamp: http://steamroom.bandcamp.com/album/steamroom-9
It seems (and I certainly hope) that Jim will be releasing new Steamrooms on a regular basis. That's really great news. But first I got to find some time and dive into the 9th episode. |
Some of this material was actually previously released in limited runs, some even on cassette, a good portion is from his early days around the time when he was in and graduated from DePaul University... When he was really interested inminimalism and musique concrete tape techniques, well he still is, of course!
|
Old or new this is some of the best Jim solo material I've ever heard, thanks for posting!!!! I love how Jim has essentially become a white Japanese man, he makes Bill Murray look like a bitch for not taking over Japan in Lost in Translation! Now it seems I have DAYS worth of new music to listen too, great selection of noise DUB to listen to while doing my grading ;)

A new 'Old News'-instalment (number 9) has been released: http://editionsmego.com/release/OLD-NEWS-9
Instant order for me :) I like this series a lot. Apparently, this one features a brand new composition by Jim. Mr. O'Rourke is quite busy lately ... :) |
he also had a track on the recent third air texture comp, 'low bow'. buy the whole thing though, really good. features tracks from oren ambarchi, ikue mori, phil niblock, fennesz, pole, heaps more.

listened to steamroom no. 1 today and i must say. what a build up on both tracks! my cup of tea.
collab. recorded live somewhere in japan. nice set. can't wait to listen to the rest. |
This totally made my day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtiT4VQJPh8
I wish the whole set was recorded. |
That's the best thing ever!

Steamroom 11 has been released: http://steamroom.bandcamp.com/album/steamroom-11
It looks more and more like Jim is planning to continue releasing stuff on a regular basis. Which is excellent news, if you ask me! |
Found lots of new stuff from Jim O'Rourke the last few weeks ... which is always a good thing imo :) Don't know if some of it has been posted yet.
First. A new collaboration between Keiji Haino, Oren Ambarchi & Jim: "Only Wanting to Melt Beautifully Away Is It a Lack of Contentment That Stirs Affection for Those Things Said to Be as of Yet Unseen". More info here: http://www.forcedexposure.com/Catalog/BT.011LP.html (LP) or http://www.forcedexposure.com/Catalog/BT.011CD.html (CD). I immediately bought the digital version and I really like it a lot! It's very good imo. Second. A LP-collaboration with John Duncan: http://idealism.bigcartel.com/produc...rourke-yeah-lp Third. Live-footage from 2014!! Part 1 is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3VvLkwJ3Bg and part 2 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-HeoEJyvnM And off course, on bancamp (http://steamroom.bandcamp.com/) there are allready 13 releases at the moment. It's a very good time to be a Jim O'Rourke-fan imo :) |
Don't know if anyone still follows Jim's outputs on Bandcamp, but steamroom 17 has been released last week.
I've listened to it quite a few times already and I really like it. One of the best releases imo. https://steamroom.bandcamp.com/album/steamroom-17 Also, a little bit off-topic maybe, but Jim mentioned 'The Necks' in an interview online. I check'd them out and listened to 'Open' and 'Drive By'. Both are really really great. It's ambient-improvisation-jazz. Each listen makes you discover new elements. Great great stuff. Also on the way is a new release with Oren Ambarchi on Editions Mego. And who knows ... maybe 2015 will see the release of his new 'song'-based album :) But in the meantime, there are more then enough releases from/with him to keep me entertained. |
last I had heard (which admittedly was a long time ago, he had six tracks done for the new pop record.
in the interim... ![]() two new collaborative sets recorded back in 2010 |
