There's smarter people than James Blonde.

Based on the amount of idiots I come across in everyday life I'd like to think I'm at least slightly above average... I'd hope so anyway.

jon boy 01.17.2007 10:45 AM

I went with 8, but this is well said indeed.

where's the zero?

sonicl 01.17.2007 11:10 AM

Modesty has made me go for 8, but I should probably have gone higher.

_slavo_ 01.17.2007 11:25 AM

i voted nine, cause I'm a proud bastard today.

noumenal 01.17.2007 12:24 PM

Wow, so many 8's.

Glice 01.17.2007 05:19 PM

Terrible spatial awareness, just like a woman. Otherwise, fine thanks.

Norma J 01.18.2007 03:39 AM

Only a dumby compares/evaluates their intelligence.

Gulasch Noir 01.18.2007 03:50 AM

Not that high probably ... I'm rather interested in talking to people, who were good at history and not necessarily in maths anyway. But who am I telling this anyway?

sonicl 01.18.2007 04:43 AM

Do you mean the ability to be funny, or the type of funny? A very unintelligent person may find the humour of an intelligent person non-existent but find the humour of his equally unintelligent friend hilarious. And vice versa.

We all have it within us to be funny, but the quality of the humour depends on the audience.

jon boy 01.18.2007 04:53 AM

dont they say that scarcasm is the lowest form of wit?

jon boy 01.18.2007 05:05 AM

i know plenty of people who are very intelligent and find virtually nothing funny.

sonicl 01.18.2007 05:05 AM

I would say that the higher the intelligence of a person the wider the range of humour he or she will be able to recognise, but quite possibly the lower the range of humour that he or she will actually be amused by. For instance, I consider myself intelligent and able to recognise fairly subtle humour that a less intelligent person may miss and take literally, but there is alot of humour that I can recognise as being supposed to be funny, but I do not find it funny myself (e.g. many sitcoms).

There are also cultural differences involved too, not only in terms of cultural references but also in the way that a remark might be understood. Something that a European might say might be taken as humourous by another European but totally missed by an American, and again vice-versa. That is something that I see happening quite a lot on this board.

jon boy 01.18.2007 06:12 AM

if the crystal maze ever made a comeback you would be a great contestant sonicl.

sonicl 01.18.2007 06:14 AM

I have a feeling you're responding to a post that I've deleted, aren't you? But thank you anyway.

!@#$%! 01.18.2007 08:02 PM

modesty is ok, but false modesty is quite lame. therefore i shamelessly gave myself high marks.

k-krack 01.18.2007 08:05 PM

I agree with yr statement there, sonicl. I consider myself fairly intelligent, and I have a wider ability to recognize what is plainly supposed to be funny.. but most of what I see that is recognized as "humour," is more "incredibly stupid" to me. (Like grade nine drama kids).

kingcoffee 01.19.2007 02:47 AM

you all give yerselves waaaay too much credit.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 01.19.2007 01:36 PM

I've got a high IQ, I had high SAT scores, did well in school. Of course that doesn't prevent me from being stupid a bunch of other ways. I blame that on my mental illness.

Norma J 01.19.2007 04:03 PM

At my school, all the so called intelligent people, well, the people who exceeded in a certain subject therefore giving the teachers hard-ons, had terrible social skills.
