What, you can't even beat this score?
Well, it's Friday, and in keeping with weeks past, I usually post a link to a flash game to play or an old school arcade game's high-score to beat. Yeah, those were the days...back when videogames (oh, the enthralling cabinet art!) were designed to seduce you into spending untold amounts of quarters, effectively shorting you on your allowance...when being good at a particular game actually meant something and was an odd achievement of sorts.
On that note, the Robotron:2084 challenge is afoot. http://www.midway.com/classicGames/r.../robotron.html (ActiveX must be enabled to play online for free) As I am wont to do, I may be posting a higher score after I play this a few more times over the weekend, so drop everything you're doing (haha), because now's your chance to show me up and score some booty (a post of a greater score wins you two discs mailed to your continental U.S. address) in the process. ![]() |
I suck at video games.
|
Me too. I'm only good at RPGs.
|
I'm alright at video games, but I'm not letting ActiveX near my computer. Sorry.
|
I remember it well; a long night for all parties. Thanks for the new link.
I've been warned about thing like ActiveX and Limewire too many times. |

i cant play it!
|
If you're messaging about this game, yes, it's ridiculously difficult.
If you can't play at all, you might need to enable ActiveX in your web browser settings, or better still, just go to www.romantion.net and download the MAME emulator for your OS, and some MAME roms. I discovered this site recently while looking for Joust 2. All downloads are free and small filesizes, but I think there may be a daily limit. |

I really thought I was going to break 200,000 but it wasn't meant to be.
And I thought Wave 9 was unbeatable. Wave 10 is a complete meltdown! ![]() ![]() |

intruder alert! stop the humanoid!! |
This game was going ridiculously well until I hit wave 10 when I lost the small army of extra men I had earned.
![]() but I did break 200,000. ![]() I came ever-so-close to getting through wave 12. __________________ http://www.midway.com/classicGames/r.../robotron.html (ActiveX must be enabled to play online for free) If you can't play at all, you might need to enable ActiveX in your web browser settings, or better still, just go to www.romantion.net and download the MAME emulator for your OS, and some MAME roms. The same designers for this game made Smash TV in the '90s. That one has a continue feature though. And, I do add that Williams Electronics' (original manufacturer) Games have no dip switches. The gameplay cannot be altered. |
I can't beat 20,000; however fun.
|
I got 23500 when firefox took a dump and hard-booted my machine.
yr robotron skills are fucking EPIC if you can get 200k. that's insane. even after remapping the keys to make diagonal shots and movement possible, it was still beyond hard. and Smash TV was awesome. I still say "I'd buy that for a dollar". |
ok. I wasn't happy with just giving up, but now I am.
this is as good as I'm going to get tonite. ![]() |
i keep pushing the wrong motherfucking buttons. i need a joystick!

changing the keys helps, but it's still way too spastic to be much easier. even if I had two joysticks, I don't think it would be the same as using the oldschool kind with the ball knobs and heavy-duty construction. I think that I'd end up braking anything like the super-cheap kind like I have now. since this is retro-game-thread, what is your favorite 2600 game? although it's not as nostalgic for me as Adventure, I'm going to have to pick Pitfall 2. gogogoindianajones!! |

Look at my first score from back at the end of January; all I could muster at first was 69,000 or so, and now I'm getting to and through that wave without having lost any men and I've only been playing it a few times a week. Quote:
I definitely prefer playing Robotron with the keyboard to playing (from what I remember anyway) the actual arcade game with the two joysticks. However, it doesn't really matter how comfortable you set up the controls for this game, it's still a bitch! haha & those circle-shaped Enforcers are swarming sons-of-bitches! You gotta take them out ASAP. Meanwhile, one must somehow rescue as many humans as possible, because that's where you get all the points; an extra player is awarded every 25,000. Download (it only takes two minutes) the MAME emulator and the Robotron rom instead of playing the flash version if the flash isn't stable. Quote:
