flaming lips

i dunno man, i've been listening lately, and i feel like i really like the insturmentals, but his voice is really turning me off....

It happens--- they tend to have really nice production and tones on their records (esp soft bulletine, it's the sounds that make the record almost as much as the music itself). I personalyl don'tmind Coyne's voice. bu ti like bad singers... so.

Voices have never been a problem for me, really. It is mostly the music.

I really like the Flaming Lips.

ZEROpumpkins 02.02.2007 02:31 AM

Yeah no worse than Billy Corgans. Flaming Lips rock.

Leftenant Tyrone 02.02.2007 02:36 AM

Overrated. Blew their wad on SB. Kinda terrible since then. Even their earlier stuff has little replay value. Voice doesn't bother me. This costume is hot inside.

I don't care for most of what I've heard. Clever lyrics and shit, but not very interesting.
Zaireeka, however, is fucking rad.

great band, great voice. soft bulletin kinda sucks and is overrated, but yoshimi is a masterpiece. the last lp was pretty good as well.

porkmarras 02.02.2007 04:41 AM

They're one of those bands that have always irritated me because i tried to appreciate their music but it bores me to tears and i absolutely can't stand his voice, posture etc etc. They seem like they fiddle with sounds a lot of the time and never go anywhere.

One of my favorite bands.
My favorite albums areTransmissions From Satellite Heart, Zaireeka, and Clouds Taste Metallic
I've only heard a couple other of their records. Good stuff.
I'd like to hear their early records

their early stuff is oook... i bought that 3 cd set of their first albums and kinda wished I hadn't. There's a signle disc collection that has the best stuff from those albums, and if you need just one get 'oh my gawd...' or better yet 'priest driven ambulance'

live-fucking circus! they rule

The Flaming Lips are not overrated. They were once a vibrant, talented, unique band with a lot of amazing material. But I feel that once they lost Jonathon Donahue and then Ronald Jones and the whole episode with Steven's drug problems, the band has really lost that spark for crazy sonic frenzy.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE their records from 1990 to 1997. Those were their best years. And their 80's stuff was pretty interesting too. Sure the textures and sounds and production values have gone up in recent years, i.e. 1999-present, but their songs just arent the same. I know musicians change and grow and go off on new paths and such, but I feel their music has suffered with At War With the Mystics. It almost feels like they are pandering to the ecstacy-rolling crowd with all the computery sounding sound effects and the techno-ish beats. Fuck those people!!! They know nothing of the Flaming Lips!!!! It's like they dont know the band had any songs before 1999!!!

I miss the old days where the drums were heavy and the guitars were crazy!!!! Like Hendrix on strong acid!!! Now they've gone too pop. Yoshimi was cool, but that style should have ended there. They dragged that music style too far with At War. It's done, move on to something new Wayne. Stop letting Steven write the songs. He's a great drummer and a talented guitarist, but he's too symphonic-oriented. I wanna hear some good ol' crazy acid-rock from the FLips.

nicely said--- At war with the mystics sounds like they put all the sounds down on tape and then thought-- oh shit, we have to write some songs for these... eh, jsut tape it altogether, sing about life and death and using your power--- there! Good as great!
