So I'm dj'ing my sisters wedding reception

Here is what she wants me to do:

Quote:

okay, to summarize what we talked about last night:

the building is two stories. so during dinner i want to play light dinner music, Sinatra, dean martin, nat king cole, etc. maybe this could be a preset playlist/cd so that you can enjoy the party and eat.

after dinner we will have the bride/groom first dance upstairs and then whatever other music people want the rest of the night. we have not picked out our wedding song yet, but i will let you know.

here are some bands/types of music we like: (keep in mind to pick songs people can dance to)

Classic Rock
Oldies
70's
80's
Incubus
pop/dance music
justin timberlake
Nirvana
Suondgarden
Lenny Kravitz
Pink Floyd
Tool
Rage
Jay Z

i trust you to pick a good variety

here are some specific songs that we want if you can get them ( i put a star by Nathans must haves)

Nat and Natalie King Cole: Unforgettable ***
Atlantic Starship: masterpiece
Luther Vandross: Always and Forever ***
Billy Joel: for the longest time
Jessica Simpson: i wanna love you forever ***
Shania Twain: From this moment
Tyrese: Sweet lady
Lately
Mariah Carey: My all
Boys II men: thank you
Usher: Nice and Slow
Lonestar: Amazed
Justin Timberlake: Senorita ***
Bringing Sexy Back***
like i love you
311: Love song
amber

oldie song: i only have eyes for you

thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

This is going to be interesting picking the rest of the music. Wish me luck.

Take Nirvana - Dumb
I think it's a nice dance song.
Oh and take Beck - Devil's haircut
I guarantee you that everyone will start to dance.

Good luck. I've never DJed a wedding, but I've played at a million in SQs.

Weddings. Woooo-hooo.

PAULYBEE2656 02.06.2007 03:49 PM

play bangles walk like an egyptian... guaranteed floor filler at any kinda disco/wedding/party/moshpit/ etc

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 02.06.2007 03:58 PM

Here are some songs I'm thinking of playing:

Eddie Murphy- Party All the Time
Tones on Tail- Go!
Corey Hart- Sunglasses at Night
Outkast- Hey Ya!
David Bowie- Golden Years
Rocky Horror Picture Show- Time Warp (I was thinking I could have my one of my sisters or a friend get on a platform and show everyone how to time warp)
New Order- Bizarre Love Triangle

And the groom's favorite band is Pink Floyd. I was thinking it might be cool to remix the funky part at the end of Echoes into a dance track. Or maybe do Us and Them as a slow dance song.

I'm also thinking I could sneak some Pink Floyd into the dinner music. Some of their slower stuff. That would be a gateway to get some other stuff in. Like some John Cale, Scott Walker, Nick Drake, etc mixed in with all the Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin type stuff.

For Nirvana I was thinking maybe Drain You or Son of a Gun. Because they are both sort of upbeat for Nirvana songs.

Good luck mang!
I dj'd at at a wedding once and the song playing during the ceremony skipped, oops!

This is a great choice:

Eddie Murphy- Party All the Time

You should put meth or cocaine in the punch and play it over and over again.

i suggest just playing the trashiest stuff you can and have fun. dont play anything too serious. there is nothing worse than a dj taking themselves seriously.

Yeah, that's what I plan to do. Play what my older sister wants me to, and add some fun stuff in. For dinner I think all I have to do is make a mix CD with just light stuff on it to relax and eat dinner to. Then the dance stuff after.

I'm not going to not include a requested song because "i'm above it" or whatever, it is my sisters wedding, I'm doing this for her, but at the same time I'm gonna have fun with it.

nathan sounds gay, with simpson as a MUST HAVE

have a great time man. I do not know if anyone would be dancing to incubus.

Eddie Murphy is the worst thing that has ever happened to acting, entertainment and certainly music.I'm surprised he hasn't died out of the wrongness of his thinking, the badness of his acting and the erratic thoughts that his little-developed,unfunny,stupid brain taunt him with on a daily basis.A waste of existence who generally entertains the ultra-easily entertained and encourages stupidy amongst the stupid.

Party All The Time is the most profound musical statement of the last century.

I'm just slagging him off because he once said that if he found out that his son was guy he'd kill him,the piece of shit.If i was at the wedding myself i wouldn't give a damn and dance to it,though.
