Black People
Opinions?
I always get nervous when talking to people of a different race. It's nothing racist, because I really pay attention to what I say to ensure I don't say something that may descriminate them, their race, or heritage. |

I've talked to a lot of people who feel the same way. I don't think it's BAD to feel this way, although it may be something you would want to work on. I mean, you don't want to hurt peoples feelings, so at least you care. I think it has a lot to do with how you were raised. My parents had all kinds of friends of different backgrounds, race, and whatever, so I see all people just as people, I don't draw lines. I used to have a hard time understanding people who see things like you do. I always saw it as racism. Now I understand that it's just a matter of getting comfortable with people who aren't exactly like you. Everybody is different, and the more you immerse yourself into other people's lives and really get to know them, the less awkward it will feel. |
Wow, I just realized how well my sig goes along with what I was saying :)

I absolutely love your signature, and I quoted it just a few days ago. But yeah, when I was very little I used to be racist, not knowing that it was a horrible thing. It was in grade 1 and 2, and my friend's friend was black, and he always made fun of me, so in retort I called him "dirty". I feel absolutely horrible about it now, and I could see why he doesn't like it. In addition, my stepdad is also racist. I mean, I guess instances that happened when growing up influences the perception in the future. I'm definitely not racist, but I can't say I feel as comfortable around a black person as I am with white people. I guess it's just natural because I live in a community that's caucasian dominant. |
I love talking to peope who are "different" from me. It is the best way to learn anything.
I get scared when talking to generic white people. I do not understand their Gap references and their obsession with Mall visits and top 40 radio. ha! when we are uncomfortable that means we are ready to learn something new. if you spend your whole life "comfortable" you are in essence static, with no betterment, no improvement, no growth. |

are you talking with preppy high school students, or some really sad adults? |
I hate the Irish.

I couldn't agree with you more. I barely socialize with most people because of this reason. Most of the people in my class are like that. They all just talk about snowboarding. As I type they're blasting (what i think is) Linkin Park. I don't find too much interesting quirks about them and can't relate to them at all. Socializing with them doesn't really improve them or me in any way. |

weird weird thread, go buy a plane ticket and travel you will get over that in a day, but still i would avoid starting threads like this. perhaps the next thread could be Gay People: choice not biology? |
