Lambsbread

For reasons beyond my ken, I wasn't really aware of this band when I attended TNBC. I kept hearing people such as Nate Young and John Olsen singing their praises so I have finally done some exploring and come across some ILL footage on youtube. Wish I had been more clued up and made Lambsbread a priority for ATP. They seem to be pushing things in a direction I was really eager to see Magik Markers go. Anyone seen em live/got any of their tapes or CDRs? I've just ordered some tapes from VT.

They're shameless selfpromoters so I went to see them at Tonic and was somewhat underwhelmed, partly because their set lasted about 8 minutes, which isn't atypical for them. But I've been digging their 7", it shows off their hardcore spazz really well, to my ears a kind of compressed early Harry Pussy - when they were good - comes to mind. Its intriguing enough that I've ordered their split 12".
I was going to post these dates today, anyway, so I was pleased to see this thread..

i've got a tape and CD-R from them. after hearing the comparisons i was disappointed by them.

smelly harbor is awesome, the heaviest free jazz i've heard, can't say about their other stuff; and yes, they say that they are anti climatic live.

how the hell is lambsbread jazz?

I've only heard Smelly Harbor but I thought it was pretty boring to be honest.

Well my first reaction to the three tapes I ordered: incredulous... puzzled...
Like the first time I heard a Markers LP... I thought they are taking the piss...
however I kept jamming the tapes from time to time, curious to see if repeated listens would offer up something more profound...
Then I began to understand where this group were coming from... seems to me they are in the tradition of bands like the Blue Humans... completely scattered freeform rock aesthetics with a free jazz sensibility..
Got their ecstatic peace LP as well which is rather splendid.. sounds pretty much exactly the same as the tapes... the most impressive thing about this band is the momentum and energy simmering beneath their pre-articulate approach to music...
