Is spank thru the ultimate Nirvana song?
It was there from the beginning till the end.

You know, it was never a particular favorite of mine but I dare say yes, you're right, spank thru is the epitome of what Nirvana was. That song is fun and self-deprecating yet in a weird way insightful and informative. The music itself is more aggressive than the subject material of the lyrics (like basically every Nirvana song).. Its having fun yet not yet is so it must be Nirvana. ![]() |
Im interested in finding when they last played it and if Kurt ever spoke about it
He had been playing it since the fecal matter era and he was pretty damn young then. |
Yeah. The from te muddy banks version is te best.
Though I still love endless nameless.... |

YES, YES IT FUCKING IS. In fact, the entirety of Muddy Banks is one of the most brilliant live discs ever.. I am so surprised how seamlessly Dave and Krist put together all those tracks from individual concerts into what sounds like a coherent mix, indeed, even those those songs are spread across SEVERAL years they all flow together as if it were just one continuous set-list from a single concert. |
Fuck yeah it is. When I was little I thought it was just one concert. Dat intro.... and...klling it with blew...these live versions definitely rival the studio versions...Polly, on this release, is still the best version I've heard. My brother had a few nirvana bootlegs(va te fair euclaire(sp), a few outcesticides, vana pele aroma, this one had some hilarious commentary)...so yeah I've heard quite a few differ versions and not to mention the boxset....but yeah. This cd still has some of the best love recordings ever.

Dave and Krist said they really wanted to showcase the epitome of what Nirvana shows were like, because the shows were epic good which was why live bootlegs were so popular (and expensive) during the mid-1990s.. Other great shows are the Seattle Live and Loud show from MTV and the "Last Great American Concert" disc but the audio quality on muddy banks is the superior of the three..
Nirvana was like Grateful Dead but heavy in regards to the propensity of bootleg records available, indeed almost every single Nirvana concert is available in bootleg form somewhere in the world |
They certainly did achieve that.
Just popped in the vana pele atoma(Rome)...cd is scratched to hell...but. Radio friendly unit shifter sills sounds perfect and Dave is drumming my fucking face in wth those fills. |
Aneurysm is the ultimate Nirvana track surely?
|
I chose spank thru because of how long it was around for. I may be incorrect but Kurt wrote it in his early to mid teens and continued to play it into adulthood.
it makes me wonder if that was the ultimate sound Kurt wanted. i dunno |
