Thanks Moshe! I thought other Malkmus listeners might find this interesting...

They played a bunch of new songs at Maxwells last month, some really heavy tunes that sounded really good even with his voice all crusty from a cold.
|
WOW! Thanks. I probably shouldn't be listening to this and wait for the album, but fuck it, they're right here. Yeah, excellent recordings.
|
thank you so much! I've been trying to d/l bootlegs of his new songs for a couple of weeks now. thanks!

sounds positive because to be quite frank, his albums w/ the jicks have been progressively been getting more stale... he needs abit of a musical makeover or transformation, to kick that "we want pavement" monkey off his back. |

I disagree. I've loved every album. Althought the first is probably my favourite... Any ideas for when a new album's coming out? |
all i know is that the west coast advantage is coming very soon

i love you! i adore the new tracks.

I actually really enjoyed "Real Emotional Trash". Some of the lyrics are distractingly retarded, but it's been like that for a while, eh?
I was surprised at how dark some of the album sounds. And there's some nice surprising bits in there as well as some intricate guitar work that occassionally teeters on wankdom but is usually pretty reserved. The songwriting is probably the best Malkmus has done since Wowee Zowee. Good album! |
Although I prefer Face the Truth (its a huge grower), RET is pretty awesome. He sounds sad..:(.. and not like in a sad songs sort of way but in a depressed mid life crisis sort of way.
|
Yeah... that's what I meant, it sounds real dark.. maybe not most of the songs themselves or the lyrical content, but the whole album feels like a downer...
|
I've been enjoying the album for a couple of weeks now. I'm gonna try to see him live at the end of April or May if I can.
