Hits of Sunshine (for the learned :-))
Hi guys,
I was just wondering...some of you might know Allen Ginsberg much better than I do, so do you know the work (or poems) that is (are) referred to in Hits of Sunshine? Is it like a vague tribute to him or rather something more "intertextual"???? Thanks in advance! Sord. Sent. |
i thought it was about doing acid? or in reference to that generation and on.

I don't think it's referencing any... just a tribute....I could be wrong, though.
The Mustang site doesn't say anything... http://www.sonicyouth.com/mustang/sy/index.html |

The line "John's reflection decried perfection" could be a reference to Jack Kerouac, one of Ginsberg's peers and a close friend throughout his life. Ginsberg's poem Sunflower Sutra contains some text and imagery similar to Hits of Sunshine, and Kerouac features prominently in it. The "conflicted goddess" in the lyrics could also refer to Ginsberg's mother, who ended up in a psychiatric hospital and was eventually lobotomized. |
yellow girls are running backwards could be racist.

allen ginsberg died around the time of ATL...i think it's really just a tribute/ode to ginsberg and the beat generation. hits of sunshine is just a reference to a fairly powerful strain of acid.

does anyone know where i can get some of this sunshine acid?

my dad used to write to Allen Ginsberg, he even wrote back a few times, my dad still has the letters.
