The Dead C - Trouble (2016)
![]() Thoughts? |
it's a dead c record.
|
here's a thought : http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/22320-trouble/
|
It is a Dead C record.
I happen to be a Dead C fan, and I thought a lot of folks here were as well, based on previous threads for previous albums. I actually haven't heard it yet, so I'm really interested in hearing anyone's "thoughts," if indeed there are any thoughts left. |
well i'm a fan of dead c , and i don't subscribe the pitchfork review or anyone else (unless they are close to my opinion )
but i haven't listen this record to, so i don't have a thought yet. i just catch of what Russel said to wire : “I think of myself as the Jimi Hendrix of no technique,”. That's a great review to dead c record . lovely. |
it doesn't need a review or thoughts, it's just another expression of what they are, subjectivity is completely invalid for these guys because they're just a bunch of dudes in a room playing, anything trying to extract value beyond that is redundant. so they're obviously the greatest band ever.
|
like they're just making choons, the last track sounds like fushitsusha for a minute before it falls apart I guess
|
I ordered the merch and the record back in June. My merch finally came in yesterday, hopefully the records come in tomorrow or Saturday. I'm so excited and will definitely report back
|
I do not know their albums at all, maybe one. I didn't know they have new one out. seen them live at ATP festival, the one Thurston curated and they ruled live. they were loud too.
|
Yikes. I'm not asking for reviews. Just a new album from a band I like. Thought it might be nice to talk about it with some other fans.
*loosens tie* |
I don't know if I was tripping or what but I felt like a few of the songs had te same sort of rhythm guitar loop. I enjoyed it but need to listen again. I'm going thru their live lp set right now. Did anyone check the 7" from last year? Those songs have some killer noisy endings

They are supposed to be playing in Brooklyn in 10 days.
The Dead C: September 20, 2016 First Unitarian Congregational Society BK The Dead C toured here for the White House lp, I saw their show at Maxwells and it was truly one of the most devastatingly heavy and out gigs I've ever seen. I think Thurston and Tom Surgal duo opened up for them and this was when klangenfaarteinstein or whatever its called had come out. |

I see what you mean guest. I initially interpreted the reaction as a "dead c = who cares" kind of comment, but now I get it, and I agree.
Though I could probably talk about White House all day. I kind of feel the same way about Autechre's new one. It's very obviously -- to me anyway -- one of the year's greatest and most ambitious albums, but I can't really think of a lot to say about the thing. It's so singular it defies comparison and analysis. Also, my physical copy of Trouble still hasn't arrived goddammit. |
hahaha no by no means, especially when in nearly every post I make in here I'm praising them for exactly that reason...this band mean a lot more to me than pretty much any other and have for a very, very long time.
having said that, I think it's quite easy to talk about them from an ideological perspective, as a subconscious dismantling of everything that constitutes rock music in a traditional sense and how that is fundamentally the most 'rockist'-centric thinking thing one could do, but actually trying to discuss their music itself seems pretty pointless as irrespective of whatever they do (not try as they aren't trying to accomplish anything at all) they always end up in the same space. russell's explanation around secret earth that they're just some guys who record between beers on an afternoon is the best description I suppose; they're not getting together to play with one another as if you've ever seen them live they aren't playing together, they get up there and each one does what they want to do for an hour then they fuck off again. on a basic level too they're just lovely people. <333333 |
