Bermuda Triangle
...of bands, that is.
Did a new band/musician/whathaveyou ever pop up, worm its way into your consciousness, inspire even a mild liking, and then disappear on you? I was looking for a cd and ran across American Football, a somewhat cheesy but potential-infused band (I would explain that more specifically regarding style, but I can't be bothered, look them up if you give a shit) that popped up around '98 and then disappeared again. I'm going to keep digging through my collection. Which bands have you liked that have sailed into those fated waters? |
I have an ep of theirs that i've bought years ago.If i could find it, i'd up it for you.
|
actually, ignore this post.
|
^I would anyway.

Many thanks darling, though I've got all their stuff. I think they only released 2 albums. I wasn't enamored with them; I just superficially liked their sound. I'm still looking through my albums. Jesus, I have bad taste. |
More discoveries:
Orb Psychobitch (local Chicago house DJ, not sure if she's gained any fame yet) Muziq (not that bad, but Royal Astronomy was horrid) Mineral It just gets worse. Sorry, I've deviated. I'll probably continue to do so. It's an interesting mark of one's progression of taste. |
Talk about multiple posting. Another group that disappeared, that I really enjoyed for some reason - Venus Hum. Anyone else ever listen to them, or know if they've done anything recently?
|
i dunno, i cant really think of one but its a great idea for a post - i know what you mean about the Orb, i used to love Orbital but they split.
|
slowdrive, polvo. what the hell is up with these guys?
|
that guy from polvo has a new band but i can't remember what they're called...
idyll swords is what they're called. some members of slowdive started a new group called mojave 3, they aren't new as such though, mojave 3 have been around since the late 90s i think |
this doesn't quite fit with the critirea of the thread as this guy disappeared before i knew who he was but there was a reggae guy in the 70s called jerry lewis who as put out at least two songs (i.e. the two songs i've got from him on compilations of old reggae) and the internet has been unable too yield any further information as to this guy's exploits.
|
now it seems Les Geogres Leningrad may enter that realm for many people, as it looks like they broke up in the last week
considering the band, they have always been in a black hole when they were active, so much mystery around them, i didn't find out their real names for a year (even so it's incomplete as i don't know Martin's last name) |
I think I've heard one off Sangue Puro and didn't like it, so out of laziness I abandoned them.
I liked Apostle of Hustle when I heard them, but I'm not sure if they disappeared, or I again got too lazy to see if they'd done anything recently. Amazing that I have Google right at my fingertips and don't check these things out. |

well in all honesty i think it was their weakest effort, i still think it's great record, but the first 2 were quite monsterous, their sound was not always so dance driven, i recommend checking out their first record Deux Hot Dogs Montarde Chou, it's is a lot more like Lilliput and the Residents. |
I heard them compared tenuously to Deerhoof once, which totally put me off, as I ABHOR them. I'm quite unfair that way, and probably miss out on a lot because of it.
Soulseeking that one now (no debates about the ethics of downloading, please). |
You don't like Helium Rock?
|
what the fuck happened to pussy galore?
|
A friend of mine found this tape in a charity store by a band called Pictish Blood. They turned out to be an awesome forgotten Australian punk band from the early 80's. Nobody can find anymore informaton about them other than whats in the liner notes.

And, to pantophobia, I gave that album a listen, and I stand corrected - they are quite fun. Thanks for the recommendation. |
