Margot Kidder 1948-2018
![]() https://news.google.com/gn/news/sear...n&gl=US&ned=us One of the huge crushes of my life — certainly the biggest one I had when I was a kid. :( |

She *was* Lois Lane... Not that she played the role from the comics perfectly (bit too much of a Woody Allen humor to her delivery) — rather, she improved upon it. She just plain WAS Lois Lane. At least for the first two films. No need to discuss III and IV.
Sad day. I remember watching her get rescued from a falling Eiffel Tower elevator like a million times, over and over, on my family’s first VCR. Actually that’s probably a super loaded memory, but still... I watched the shit out of Superman when I was a kid. |

That's one of her most inconic scenes as Lois Lane! Except not when she gets rescued, but right before, when she climbs under the elevator and holds on to a bar underneath, going, "Pulitzer Prize. Capital P, small u, l, i, t, z, e, r. Capital P, small r, i..." ![]() |
Anyway, Margot did some great work besides portraying Lois Lane. If you haven't seen 1973's Sisters, DO IT. It scared the living crap out of me when I first watched it, ages ago.

Yes yes! I remember, “Capital P...” Awesome. |

Her Lois wasn't the typical tied-to-the-railroad-tracks damsel in distress. She was ambitious, daring, sly. Amy Adams picked up on this as well — check out her smirk on Man Of Steel when she's escaping from her apartment building and she thinks she's outsmarted the Feds (until Colonel Christopher law-&-order Meloni stops her, that is :)). Kate Bosworth, on the other hand, was a complete bore. Can't say I blame it entirely on her, though, as Superman Returns was fucking unacceptable. |
Let's take this opportunity to give it up for Christopher Reeve as well. With one "simple" move he goes from Clark Kent to Kal-El like *this* [snaps fingers]:
