Berlin Tips?

I'm going to be visiting Berlin at the end of June and was wondering if anyone had any tips on things to do, see, etc.

I went a few times in the 90s, usually staying in Kreutzberg, but I assume the city's changed quite a bit since then.

The places to be now are Prenzlauer Berg and Friedrichshain, both on the east side - have a look at the Time Out Berlin link here. Also have a look at local listings may Zitty, who have a website here. There's a great cinema in Berlin called Arsenal - details here. Aim to have a look around the Reichstag - it looks well impressive from outside, and apparently it's even better once you're in there. If it's a sunny day, you could do a lot worse than wander down to the park near Brandenburg Gate. Kreuzberg's not what it was, but there's still some bars which may still have that old Blixa Bargeld charm.

yes head east if you want to see berlin. the west is a bit rubbish.

go to prenzlauer berg and f hain for bars, cafes and shops and head to mitte to laugh at the fashion victims. avoid the hookers on oranienburg strasse at all costs.

if you go down unter den linded then you will come accross some truly amazing architecture if you head of the main street and turn off into some of the side street. around there is loads of historical stuff: brandenbourg gate, reichstag, hitlers buker, typography of terrors (old gestapi headquaters) and the monument to the murdered jews etc. also check out herman goerings old office (next door to the typography)

i used to be a tour guide so i know quite a few places.

That's great. thanks. Last time I went I was staying in Kreutzberg, but here that it's not so good now.

its good there. check out victoria park and bergmanstrasse.

of you travel on the U1 then pretty much every stop around kotbusser tor, gorlitzer bahnhof etc there is something to do.

Any good bars and restaurants you'd recommend?

plenty to choose from. go down oranien strasse near kotbusser tor and there are some good ones. likewise around shleicheses tor u bahn. for the most bars you ever saw go to friedrichshain and just walk around, there are more than you can shake a stick at. also prenzlauer berg (kastanien allee and papel allee) are good bars.

for the main stupid tourist ones then go to mitte but be warned there are loads of drunk tourists everywhere.
