Grindhouse!

who's pumped for this? and which film?
I think I'm looking forward TO Death Prrof a bit more because Tarantino's seems mor eover the top and less like his previous work.

atari 2600 04.05.2007 06:55 PM

I'm more looking forward to Tarantino's Death Proof part myself also. I don't know if I'm going to get out and see it tomorrow night though. I might wait until Sunday or next week sometime.

Rodriguez' Planet Terror was shot in Austin.
I just can't help but think how I'll compare it with the highly-entertaining Wright/Pegg Shaun of the Dead though. Which brings to mind that horrible-looking Hot Fuzz follow-up.

RODRIGUEZ: Well, that one was one I was thinking of doing before Sin City; I had an idea to do a double feature. I had an old double feature poster that had two movie posters on the same poster, saying 'Two Hot Rod Flicks Together,' Drag Strip Girl and Rock All Night or something like that, and I thought I should do something like that; they are truncated features, like each one is an hour. I forgot about it and went to show [Tarantino] his Sin City scene, and he had the same poster on his floor (laughs). I said, 'Hey! I was thinking about doing a double feature - you should do one and I'll do the other one.' He was like, 'Oh, f*** yeah, we'll call it Grind House and we'll do fake trailers in between for movies that don't exist.'

Hahaha, one of whats sure to be the goriest films of the year on easter. Kudos to you.

atari 2600 04.05.2007 07:25 PM

...Different kind of gore, brand of gore at least.

I knew I should have launched a pre-emptive attack.

I thought the gore in Kill Bill, Volume 1 was stupid. I know the intention was to be cartoonish and pulpy with the violence, but it just rang so false. Ditto the leaping around ala Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Tarantino is not above a certain element of cheesiness that he tries to pass off as homage, however, this movie is going to be a great one. Mark my words.

Alex's Trip 04.05.2007 07:29 PM

This movie reminds a joke super hero that a friend and I came up with.

His name would be Gunhands, but he'd actually have guns for feet. His name would confuse people, which would give him some kind of an edge.

atari 2600 04.05.2007 07:36 PM

I think the whole gun-leg thing is something that I do not jibe with...it seems goofy and dumb. However, I bet that I will like it by the end of Planet Terror. Such is the filmmaker's art. While one cannot deny the genius of El Miriachi, Rodriguez has had a spotty filmography overall so far, but I imagine this is good.

Alex's Trip 04.05.2007 07:41 PM

I agree, I think the leg looks really stupid, but that is what made the joke super hero so funny to me and my friend.

That's great actually, Alex's Trip.

I did a couple of comics too when I was younger. Like many, I drew Star Wars and D&D-type fantasy art stuff, but I did a few books on a character called Goofus the Ghost (how I wish I had those) and another called Phaethon which was like the Thundarr the Barbarian cartoon mixed-in with Gamma World rpg game a bit. Goofus was this ghost that had a top hat, gloves, and shoes could be seen under his sheet.
I remember a Goofus the Ghost (did those really young... second grade mostly, 2-5 overall) where he went to an amusement park and one (that I'm sure I wish I still had) where Goofus the Ghost went to cash a check. I remember it as being rather hysterical. I was reading all the Peanuts books (strip compilations) at the time.
To self: I think Wanda Mallette sent them in to some people.

The illustration was technically better in Phaethon, I remember that much. I was older by then (grades 6-7).

i'm certainly looking forward for it!!! i want to watch a fun movie for a change.

I'm going to have to catch Grindhouse on dvd, but the Rodriguez part looks badass.

SynthethicalY 04.05.2007 10:02 PM

I saw a preview for it, and saw some chick shoot a gun from her leg. That put me off. Seriously, shooting a gun with your legs? What kind of shit is that.

atari 2600 04.05.2007 11:27 PM

Oh, I forgot, The Sopranos are on Sunday.

k-krack 04.05.2007 11:28 PM

Fuck, looks so good. I want to see it.
