Before Sunrise. Quite possibly the best romantic movie ever.
 

Hands down. I'm not usually a softey for this kind of stuff, but wow. I had saw like 15 minutes of it a few years ago, I bought Before Sunset recently and I was blown away, and have just now watched Before Sunrise today, and I'm just blown away. This movie just does everything right as far as the romantic angle goes. It strikes a chord with all of us. One night, no rules, no prior history, no regrets, changed forever.

SubUrbia is my favourite Linklater film. No one ever talks about it, it should be hailed as classic, a masterpiece. No film as ever articulated that sense of suburbian teenage romantism quite like that film (hanging out with your friends at midnight). If I could get a good copy I would take some of the scenes and do a video for Daydream Nation. It only ever plays late night on Channel4 and its almost impossible to buy....But that goes for most of the films I love. Anyone ever seen 'Gas, Food, Lodging'

I have seen Casablanca. Great movie, it just doesn't strike the same heartstring as this one.

SubUrbia is great too. Giovanni Ribisi is wonderful in it. It's out of print, which sucks. I found my copy at my local Food City Video Department for sale for $4. I have the best luck with that kind of stuff sometimes.

I don't quite know why its out of print, the soundtrack is really easy to buy

Gawd SubUrbia chaps my ass. Hated that movie. Just hated it.

And there's nothing romantic about hanging out with friends in front of the Quik-E-Mart at midnight. Quite the opposite, in fact. It's really one of my least favorite things to do. Loitering is obnoxious.

Maybe it's because I think teenagers suck. And movies about teenagers, more often than not, are going to suck. I feel like my teenage years have been and still are the least interesting years of my life, especially where "friends" and "hanging out" are concerned. I can't wait to get older and crankier.

Fuck, I'd rather watch Love Actually than SubUrbia. At least it has fat jokes.

I'm going to absolutely hate not being a teenager. I love how exciting being this young is. Thats the spirit Linklater always so perfectly taps into. Hanging about at midnight, drunkenly talking about life, life being so young, and having an infinite future where anything is possible. All in all enjoy youth its the most precious thing in the world.

I hate childhood tho.. I just love teenagehood and even that I hated until I was 16. Being an older teenager is the coolest thing in the world.

Plus I find people start to look worn, tired and not as good-looking after 25.

casablanca is a bit different because rick & whatshername had a story already & blah blah.

if you like casablanca watch woody allen's play it again sam, not one of his best but pretty amusing.

I only mentioned Casablanca because it often tops critics' lists as the most romantic movie ever made, so that was more of a response to the title of this thread than anything else. I am not claiming it as my own favorite romance, because I've never given the subject much thought.
