creatively washed up

thats how i am feeling. writers block, a dry spell etc.

ever have these and what do you do about it?

Toilet & Bowels 04.18.2007 04:16 AM

i had one last summer, i cured it by going back to some stuff i made 3 or 4 years ago and developing those old ideas via things i had learned since then

jon boy 04.18.2007 04:30 AM

yes i think that would probably help, both things i mean.

perhaps drinking heavily might also (not serious with that remark beofre you get the violins out).

CHOUT 04.18.2007 04:31 AM

I go in and out with it...sometimes taking a break helps...or approaching things differently. I just got out of a few month funk by trying to finish writing songs that I've had a while but were never completed.

yeh im having a creative block for my guitar, i often get bursts of creativity for drawing but at the moment im dry as a bone, how ever i do have tons of riffs and tunes i have made and never done anything with on tapes

Green_mind 04.18.2007 04:44 AM

It's a lame feeling, do you ever loose faith in your favourite music in these times?

ALIEN ANAL 04.18.2007 04:49 AM

haha yeh you do , i know i often think 'fuck..maybe im not cut out for this', but then ill make something later on and be happy and think yeh i might have soemthing here...but at the moment i feel as interesting as hillary swank cutting an apple

Green_mind 04.18.2007 05:06 AM

haha that's funny. Sometimes when I have a creative block whilst bashing my guitar, I find alternative tunings help. The last time it happened I dropped it into DGDGBD and made a little tune, totally refreshed my mood.

I know the feeling, a few years ago I started writing something and that something mophed into a story whith characters, and emotions and a decent plot and all the makings of a novel. I wrote about 60 pages and all of a sudden all writing ceased, nothing else happened. Until now I had been blaming that on my hard drive being wiped out, but really I had stopped writing long before that occurence. I always wonder why, why had I with such great zeal and frequency been writing and developing this creation and why did all my creative force suddenly decide to exit.

ALIEN ANAL 04.18.2007 08:27 AM

well i just played for green mind and i think he is my Muse.

tesla69 04.18.2007 08:30 AM

Well when it happened to me totally honestly I just gave up on being a creative type and went off and listened to my new favorite band Vaginasore, Jr.

ZEROpumpkins 04.18.2007 08:39 AM

Lol vaginasore jr. Yeah I got blocks like that a lot, then i just have two week periods of intense creativity.

Toilet & Bowels 04.18.2007 10:52 AM

the other option is to give up doing what you love and then die

whorefrost 04.18.2007 11:00 AM

I just spread myself thinly over myriad creative activities. Problem is I don't achieve any consistent measure of success in anything.

Everyneurotic 04.18.2007 11:19 AM

once i had that for lyrics, couldn't come up with anything good.

what i did was carry a notepad (actually a bunch of notebook pages) around with me and whenever i thought of a phrase i would write it down; when i had a bunch (three pages) i started to patch sentences, some of those lyrics came out good some not so much, but after a few songs written like that, i started to pick writing again.

try writing something different too (prose instead of poetry or vice versa, etc.)

afterthefact 04.18.2007 12:00 PM

I get blocks all the time with guitar. I just start unthoughtfully making weird "chords" (I'm just randomly placing my fingers) and different stuff, eventually it turns into something. Another thing I did was I tried taking different chords and moving them down one string, and if I'm at the bottom, start that fret at the top again. You get some strange sounds with that too.
