Thurston covering Dylan on new Uncut magazine disc

I figured a separate thread was worthwhile since it's a semi-limited item - the June 2021 issue of Uncut (in shops April 15 in the UK) features a disc containing exclusive Bob Dylan covers, including "Buckets of Rain" by Thurston.

As far as I know he's done only two songs which approximate that title: "It's Too Late" and "You're Too Late", both covers, and both only performed live (three times the former and only once the latter). I think this is a different tune. Wow.

It's just the way this shit rolls. The May issue (Velvet Underground on the cover) was in stores March 18.

Back to the future, there are now more details on the June issue's contents: it's an all-around Bobfest as Dylan turns 80. Thurston was the first artist to "submit" a cover for the CD, on January 7.

Hmm, "Too Late [acoustic version]" seems to be a demo of "Foot Of Pride", which probably indicates that the next volume in the Bootleg Series will be focused on Infidels. It'd sure be great to have the other version of "Blind Willie McTell"...

Incidentally, Lou Reed did an excellent cover of "Foot Of Pride" at The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration. From a 2009 issue of The Wire:

"Did he make it to the top?/Well, yeah, but then he dropped." Then I got onstage to do this thing, and they got teleprompters that big so you get two lines, and there's 27,000 verses in it. So there's a big cheat sheet up there, and GE [Smith, Dylan guitarist between 1988–90] is playing guitar, and he would turn the page for me, it was crazy. So many words. But I wasn't gonna edit Dylan. Each verse is hilarious. I mean, really, really, really funny. When I played in bars, we did nothing but covers, but recordings? I don't know, I can't think of any. I mean, there's a lot I wish I'd written. My versions of doo-wop songs were not nearly as good as the real ones. That's been a source of irritation.
