What are your favorite EPs?
EPs! This is a thread about them! Talk about your favorite extended plays — or even “mini-albums,” who cares? Let’s do it, ok.
OH ALSO, WHAT CONSTITUTES AN EP? LENGTH? PROBABLY LENGTH! BUT WHAT IF IT’S NOT LENGTH? Something to think about. Some of mine: Rival Dealer EP by Burial Pretty Little Lightning Paw by A Silver Mt. Zion Halfway to a Threeway by Jim O’Rourke Two Airships/Exploder Falls by Candy Claws Watery, Domestic by Pavement The Greatest of All Time by Archers of Loaf Some Candy Talking by JAMC M3LL155X by FKA Twigs And a bunch I’m forgetting. This totally original thread idea has been brought to you by spite ;) |
Goddammit this was an earned (but good-natured ;) ) revenge post against Soup Nazi for stealing posts from me. Can’t even get a reply from the Nazi himself? Pssh. I can’t count on this forum for anything anymore

Dude. Like, dude. Who comes up with a "favorite EPs" thread. It's a silly idea. :D Also, you completely dodged the flame war we were gonna have about what constitutes an EP. Length? Classic full-lengths by the Stones (and yeah, OK, the bloody Beatles) to the Ramones to No Age clock in at under half an hour. Number of tracks? Plenty of albums have just one (before the CD came along, they had to split it, but it was still one — Ornette's Free Jazz immediately springs to mind). Format? The 10 and 7 inchers are mostly associated with EPs and singles, respectively, but mess with the rpms and baby, you got a stew — I mean an album going. And then there's this new shit I'm told, s.. str... streemeen', which apparently makes everything I just said irrelevant (you fucking kids). So here's my take: an EP is what you say is an EP, but then you own it and have to defend it IN A BATTLE TO THE DEATH. ![]() Fun times! The key to a really good EP is simple, yet of course immensely difficult to achieve: not a wasted minute. An album can still be great if there's a drop in quality on a couple of tracks, but if your EP is just a promotion for a tune and you padded the disc or whatever with bullcrap, get off of my cloud! Alright, at one point I had a LONG list in my head, but I'm gonna start with a few.

Oh SHIT I won't forget myself if I don't immediately add:

I'm familiar with three out of your eight picks. 37.5%... a little lame. :o |

![]() It's PAW not LAW !! :D I think I would prefer the other EP they made: The West Will Rise Again But the Lightning Paw is good too, except that I love the live versions of Microphones In The Trees so much more than the recorded version I don't want to make a full list right now because I'm hungry and need to go shopping. But as I said in the other thread: The Breeders' Safari EP. Played it to shreds when it was released. And a bunch of Mono, and Low EPs, like the Fishtank EP, and I forgot which one has Your Place In Sunset |

oh yeah I forgotr about that one :D ![]() |

Arrested Development references are always appreciated. Anyway yeah the idea just came to me. It’s crazy. Also I totally asked about the thing you said I should ask about, no clue what you’re taking about. What “edit” function? Nope it was always there and you missed it because you’re silly. Anyway this is a blood feud but not really. Cheers |

Oh my, why I didn't think of Low's Christmas EP? Possibly my all-time favorite EP, I saw them play it live 6 times :)
Here are some others: Godspeed You Black Emperor! – Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada E.P. Joy Division - An Ideal for Living Sonic Youth - Silver Sessions, SYR1 & SYR2 Dinosaur Jr - Just Like Heaven don't know if it's actually an EP, it's more of a single perhaps, but the 12" vinyl has a very cool etching on the back Neil Young- Arc Low - Transmission EP |
