Feist
With her new album THE REMINDER coming out shortly, I wanted to see what others thought of this Canadian songstress.
Her last album, LET IT DIE, featured some solid work, and some that was quite poor as well. She's actually pretty hit or miss in general for me. Her recent update of Nina Simone's See-line Woman (which she has entitled Sealion Woman?) is pretty craptacular and pointless, imo. She does have a lovely voice, on record at least. She sounded as if she were straining on all of the live recordings I have heard of her. I guess my point is that I'm torn over my feelings for her. She certainly didn't manage to grab my attention/emotions in the way that female soloists like Bjork or Cat Power did, but some of her stuff has indeed grown on me. Thoughts? |
she's alright
|
i've liked her since i heard 'let it die' back in '05. i don't really care for her cover of 'see line woman' either, but i like everything else of hers.
|
the stuff i heard i thought was rubbish, really rubbish
|
I think some of it's alright - I've got a promo of The Reminder. It's a little too lightweight for my tastes. Pretty diverse though - fair few styles going on.
|
I've not heard much of the new stuff, but I assume it's the same Feist who toured with Chilli Gonzales in... ooh, must've been 2001 or so? She was lovely, and a pleasant enough person as well.
|
Yeah that's her. She used to run around with Gonzales and Peaches... and was also a semi-member of Broken Social Scene. I was contemplating buying her new album... but I think I'll just save my money for Bjork's upcoming release and the Youth's reissue of D. NATION.

I didn't catch on to the last one, but I like the new one a lot all the way through.

I love answering opinion threads mindlessly.

don't go wasting your money on the new bjork album, now. |
I won't go wasting my money on it, now... but I may go waste my money on it, later... ;)

amazing voice, amazing lady.
I've seen feist 3 times, each in a different context (outdoor festival/small venue/ and with Broken Social Scene) , and she was great each time, even despite her being sick at the virgin festival . But I would say she sounds alot better and is definately suited more for a smaller, more intimate venue. I also met her briefly at a Stars concert and she was really nice. I like her new song My Moon, My Man, but the video is complete rubbish. What was she thinking? Quote:

I agree that her works are a bit uneven, however I love her voice and she was great when I saw her live.
|
From what I heard, she's nothing special.
Cute though. |
Cute sometimes, yes. really hit or miss in that feild, though...
Same goes for her music... a few good songs, a few crap songs. I wouldn;'t buy an album, but her songs with BSS are some of the best. |
I just saw her on conan for the first time. I really love her voice, its so warm and beautiful. It was a new song off reminder i really enjoyed it.It had numbers in it.
For people more into her which record is better to start with? |
she is a cutie patootie from what i'[ve seen, so...
|
But hell, that one song My Moon My Man is just perfect pop.

On the whole I prefer Let it die (especially the track "Lonely lonely" which reminds me of Tim Buckley in his Happy sad period). My favourite song of hers is the one she wrote for and sang with Jane Birkin, "The simple story". |
