Marshall Allen is 100!
Let's celebrate the living for a change. Marshall Allen turned 100 (!) a little over a week ago and The Wire made these articles from its archive free to read:
Invisible Jukebox: Marshall Allen, Tested by Edwin Pouncey, The Wire 250, December 2004 Days & Nights In The Interzone: Val Wilmer on how Marshall Allen came of age in Paris in the 1940s, The Wire 363, May 2014 The Ark & The Covenant: Marshall Allen interviewed by David Keenan, The Wire 380, October 2015 |
Such a legend. Seen him leading the Arkestra in 2019 at almost 95 and he was still killing it. I swear, music sustains that man. Happy belated birthday to him.

Yes, all the best to Mr. Allen. I hope Ramblin' Jack Elliott, whom I saw when he was in his early 80s (he's 92 now and still playing shows), can also hit the century mark. And I hope I didn't jinx him by saying that.
