partial musical inspiration for Rain on Tin?
Here's an instrumental by Andy Summers and Robert Fripp. It's a demo for Andy Summers' I Advance Masked (A&M, 1982) that doesn't appear on that album.
It's called "Hungarian Dance." A couple of passages from this track seem to me to be possibly quoted in the outro to Sonic Youth's "Rain on Tin." http://www.sendspace.com/file/bttz0z 38 MB lossless .wav (3:47) This was recorded at Arny's Place, Parkstone Studios, in Dorset, UK, sometime in 1981. |
Thanks for that. That's neat.

My opinion is that it's a possibility that this piece was a partial inspiration for the outro of Rain on Tin. I've not once put that up as any kind of statement of fact because it would be silly to do so, and hence the reason for the question mark in the topic title. Still, one cannot help but listen to some parts of the guitar lines and plainly hear that a certain passage of the Rain on Tin outro mirrors them pretty damn closely. It very well may be a concurrent coincidence as Toxa notes. Then again, Jim has some fairly heavy prog-rock/art rock leanings. I appreciate the input. |
who knows....
i heard some similarities in the end, yeah. |
