My friends and I need some tihngs to do in Chicago...can anyone help???

My friends and I will be in Chicago during the Pitchforkmedia music festival. We are all 17 years old and interested in what young people are interested in (music, art, food, fun, etc.) and we were wondering if there were any places we should certainly check out while there. We don't want to be bored, so could you help out? Any record shops? Art galleries/ Museums? Resturaunts? Hip places for kids? ... Etc? Thanks alot guys.

well the places i went in chicago seemed kind of quiet but thats not to say that you would not like them. for 'hipster' or whatever places i was told to go to damon on the L train and look around there. american apparel stores and urban outfitters abound but a few nice cafes where around and some venue i forget the name of.

down by the lake there are a few parks and the art gallery in town was ok. i am sure someone can offer a more comprehensive list than i.

Reckless Records in Wicker Park is pretty great.

I feel obligated to contribute here, but I don't particularly feel like it at the moment.

Let me contemplate. Sending me a pen wouldn't hurt your cause.

I looked for a pen for you when I was at the museum of science and industry.
They didn't have anything remotely cool enough. I thought for sure they would have those astronaut pens that write upside down.
No dice.

Even if that's a lie, I appreciate the thought. I've actually always wanted one of those, despite the fact that I cannot think of a single situation in which I'd use it.

As for things to do, SC is right, Reckless is a good place to shop, though sometimes it's a bit pricey in my opinion. If you're freaky kids, or want to gawk at freaky people, hang around Clark & Belmont. I also rather like the Terra Museum, but I'm not sure that's even open anymore.

Google it, I'm boring.

Word.

I visited plenty of places when I was actually in Chicago, but none of them stand out as being enjoyable enough to mention.

i second that. i was actually quite bored much of the time.

only place i did find that was ok was some bar up near loyola university that was very cheap and i could smoke in.

If you happen to go to Reckless Records, please can you ask them why the fuck they don't respond to emails. Thanks.

did they forever pocket your money order?

sonicl 06.19.2007 04:55 AM

I placed an order online a couple of weeks ago, but they've never done anything about it. If the item's been sold, then fine, that's no problem, but it would be cool if they'd have the fucking manners to let me know. Especially when I've emailed them twice to ask what's going on.

oh. so do they have your cash? or just a bid of some kind?

sorry to hear man. such are the perils of international trade.

sonicl 06.19.2007 05:04 AM

No, they haven't had any cash. I've just ordered from them in the same way as you would from any other online store, and they've done nothing. I haven't been ripped off, just ignored.

they are probably busy licking toads.

give them a few weeks to recover their wits, you never know.

sonicl 06.19.2007 05:07 AM

Thanks, Mr Hiaasen.

sonicl 07.04.2007 11:10 AM

Well Reckless eventually got around to recovering their wits and sending me what I ordered. It took them three weeks though. I don't think I'll bother using them again.
